Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

Welcome to another summer with the San Francisco Police Youth Fishing Program! We are excited to begin our 45th year in serving the youths of our community. The good news is we will be offering a new educational program this summer. The Aquarium of the Bay at Pier 39 has offered to give groups a tour of the aquarium hosted by a naturalist. The aquarium offers a wonderful adventure for younger children. The tour will be offered after a fishing trip, or your group can sign up for the tour as an independent outing. Also, there may be salmon season this year. We will however, continue to fish for rock cod, halibut and stripped bass, regulations permitting. Please read the following information carefully and return your 2013 summer questionnaires as soon as possible.

Program Dates: Monday, June 17th through Friday, August 23rd.

Ocean Fishing: Chartered fishing trips will depart every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The fishing trips depart from Fisherman's Wharf at Jefferson and Jones Streets promptly at 5:30 AM. Each boat will be allowed 14 children and only 1 supervisor. Any supervisor and participant 16 years or older, must own a valid fishing license or purchase a one day fishing license from the boat's Captain. Any request for additional supervision must be pre-authorized. Any unauthorized supervisor's will not be allowed to board the boat. A request for an additional adult that serves as a driver for the group will not be authorized. There is adequate supervision with the police officers and boat staff. Please remember, this is a youth program.

New this year, Bay Fishing: If your group wishes to fish in the bay for halibut, stripped bass or sharks, the boats will depart Fisherman's Wharf at 7:00 AM.

Please indicate on the questionnaire what you prefer.

Aquarium Tour: If your group decides to take the tour, the supervisor will walk to Pier 39 accompanied by a police officer. The tour will take approximately 1 hour and the naturalist will show and explain the species of fish that call the San Francisco Bay, home. If your group does not wish to fish, yet, take the aquarium tour, you will be met by a police officer at Pier 39 by the flag pole at 10am. The aquarium can accommodate groups up to 15 children. Visit www.aquariumofthebay.com for more information. Lunch is not provided.

If your group is scheduled for a trip and you must cancel, or plan to bring a smaller group than originally planned, please notify our office (415) 401-4664 as soon as possible.

Fishing trip: You must cancel within 72 hours of the trip, excluding weekends. If your group does not cancel within 72 hours prior to the trip and /or your group is a NO SHOW, your group will be billed for the cost of the trip ($750.00). Our Program is obligated to pay for the trip even if a group does not show up. This is not only a financial loss to our Program; it prevents other children that may be on a waiting list from participating.

All fishing equipment and bait are provided for each trip. Each group will be responsible for providing transportation and ensuring participants bring their lunch and warm clothing for the trip. Each group will be responsible for providing staff than can and will supervise their groups.

Aquarium Tour: You must cancel within 72 hours if the tour, excluding weekends. If your group does not cancel with 72 hours for the tour and/or your group is a  NO SHOW , your group will not be allowed to participate in the program in the future.

Scheduling will be done on a first come basis by returning the enclosed questionnaire to the address on the questionnaire. If you have any questions, please leave a message on our voice mail at (415) 401-4664 and we will return your call as soon as possible.

We look forward to another great summer.
