1. CALL TO ORDER AND ROLL CALL

 

The meeting was called to order by Chair Peter Cohen at 4:15 p.m.

2. ANNOUNCEMENTS

 

Peter Cohen announced that the Inner Bay Cities Round Table is to meet on July 19 in Oakland; that he is invited to participate in a panel at the California Planning Associations Conference in Anaheim that will focus on the challenges around land use planning. He also introduced Karenna Jaggar from the Women's Initiative.

 

 

3. UPDATE BY MOEWD ON PDR RETENTION PROGRAM AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT PLAN STUDY

 

Jennifer Matz: MOEWD has secured funding for a full-time PDR manager who is to create a proactive, formal strategy to retain and support PDR businesses. MOEWD is working with the Small Business Commission to streamline the permit process.

 

Ms. Matz: the Economic Development Plan study is looking at two sets of information–what kinds of groups contribute taxes and revenue to the City; and what industry sectors seem to be the most robust with a secure future in the City?

4. COMMITTEE REPORTS

 

  1. Looking at idea of grouping categories of workers under a single entity for Workers Comp insurance. Idea is to find an agency within City government to train a safety group.
  2. Research: had a meeting with the owner of restaurant, Delfina re the supply network.

 

 

5. GUEST PRESENTATION–MARGARET SALAZAR (UCB GOLDMAN SCHOOL OF PUBLIC POLICY

 

Ms. Salazar reported trends in the PDR workforce, i.e., who works in PDR, what happens to these people when they are laid off. She used Bureau of Labor statistics/data and Planning Department reports that defined PDR.
