MEDIA ADVISORY
SAN FRANCISCO’S ELECTIONS TASK FORCE ON REDISTRICTING
FINISHES NEW SUPERVISORIAL DISTRICT MAP

San Francisco’s Elections Task Force on Redistricting approved a new supervisorial District Map on April 14th thereby meeting their April 15th deadline. This map reflects public input collected through a series of community meetings while complying with federal, state and local laws. The map passed with a five to four vote. Gwenn Craig, John Trasvina, David Bisho, Quintin Mecke and Herbert Donaldson voted for the map. John Murray, Claudine Cheng, Rebecca Prozan and Bowman Leong voted against the map. This new supervisorial district map will be used for the next decade until the new census takes place.

Throughout the redistricting process numerous neighborhood groups, as well as individuals, spoke about how they felt the lines should be drawn. The Task Force considered these ideas, and the following is a list highlighting some of the issues taken in consideration on the new map:

  • Potrero Hill remains intact and in district 10 as it was on the original map. It continues to share the district with Bayview, Hunters Point, Visitacion Valley and part of the Portola
  • Japantown is united now in district 5 instead of being split between 5 and 2.
  • Glen Park is united now in district 8 sharing a district with Noe Valley, Castro and Duboce Triangle. It was formerly split between districts 7 and 8.
  • The University of San Francisco is now united in district 1. It was previously split between Districts 1, 2 and 5.
  • Russian Hill, Hayes Valley and the Portola remain divided amongst a few districts.

A map displaying the new district lines in comparison to the old district lines is on display at the Department of Elections in City Hall from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 pm.
