SF Asthma Task Force Planning Committee Minutes

August 1, 2007

2. a. All addbacks were approved

    b.  IRB at CPMC finally passed! After a year.  Can now move ahead with grant.  IDing variables to pull data for pediatric hospitalized patients.  People may not have their first diagnosis as asthma so we want to get the right people.  Intern from SF State will be assiting with this grant.

1. Ananymous Quest

2. FG with providers

3. Community FG

Would like to do a parallel process at SFGH

Will follow for 3 years.

KP grant – we won’t here about until Septemeber.  Working with 4 clinics at a top down level to improve asthma care.  Joanna will be working on this project.

OMH Grant – Anjali indicated that the grant was not accepted.

Glroia added that it is important that we ID what we want to have funding for so we are clear when approached with funding opportunities or figure out how to fit our.

Update her and request another meeting time with her to discuss housing issues.

GT felt that each entity had different areas of interest.

We still need to answer whether we want/need a coalition?  How to ensure that there is still interest, buy in attendance with task force.

Important question related to funding for partners – Parent Voices, HCOP

What do people have to gain if they work with us?

Other coalitions – staffing and operations money are written and used by same staff, channeled through fiscal sponsor.  As a coalition write for grants either through a member of coalition or fiscal sponsor who can subcontract coalition members to work on project.  Funds to stipend members of coalition.

Being legislated didn’t really prove to be effective in getting people to the table.

Considering options/scenarios:

  1. Being legislated with city funds/without city funds
  2. Being a community coalition
  3. Being a network of organizations

Considering funding, structure (leadership, committees, meeting frequency), staff, location, governance

Need a mechanism for evaluation and accountability for anyone who is paid especially.

Should we be looking at just asthma or more broadly - disparities, social determinants of health, chronic diseases, nutrition/physical activity.

How much do we value the people at the table in deciding the future of the ATF.

What is it about the task force we want to see continue and succeed?

What do we want to leave behind?

What is the role of the task force?
