Attendees:

Margi English, Sabrina Adler, Dr. Randall Lane, Jacqueline Chan, Marie Hoemke, NanMadden, Karen Cohn, Gloria Thornton, Dr. Peg Strub, Anjali Nath

 

 

I.   Schools, Child Development, and Home-based Childcare Committee

A.     Green Cleaning Purchasing for SFUSD – update (Anjali)

B.      Update on Meetings:

a.           Superintendent Carlos Garcia/FollowUp 

·        Seems like the Supt. Recognizes Jackie as a resource for Tools for Schools and recognizes ATF as a resource as well. 

b.           District Asthma Team (DAT)

·        Meeting with Supt. Impacted tone and outcomes of DAT meeting

b.           Board Members (scheduling)

·        Anjali is continuing to schedule meetings

C.           Tools for Schools (TfS)- Update & Strategy (Jackie)

·        Jackie explained that she was hired to assist SFUSD implement TfS and to conduct trainings, assist with walkthroughs, and assist with remediation or reporting of findings.  Targeting both school and CDC sites

·        Biggest challenge has been getting people engaged, knowing about Jackie and the Board Policy mandate for TfS. 

·        Jackie explained the Williams Settlement lawsuit and that we’ve been invited to attend SFUSD’s Williams walkthroughs; met with Facilities Director; met with four facilities staff members re: development of TfS database.

·        Jackie spoke with Parent Advisory Council (PAC) who seem supportive, may have follow up meetings

D.          Action Items

a.       Anjali to set up meetings with Sabrina, Margi, and Randall

b.      Email Gloria, Neil, Marie and Jackie re: School Board member meetings

c.       Karen will follow up with Trish and Meyla on action items from meeting with Supt. Garcia

d.      Look into SFSU Health Ed Students (course #480) to see if they could support TfS implementation and outreach as a possible project.

e.       Information: Shelf in Karen’s office has ATF related flyers and info if anyone needs them

 

II.   Planning Committee

Impact of Budget Cuts: Alternate Funding Strategies

·        Budget cuts have already gone through and always looking for alternate funding strategies

New American Media Event/Media Strategy – NAM coordinates with ethnic media

·        Neil got a call as a resource to a child care provider re: use of bleach as a result of the media event; related to Gateway to Quality partner project

·        Clarified that Gateway to Quality ensures that all children are eligible for (quality) child care in SF – both center based and home care.

·        Gloria suggested a media policy; Dr. Lane suggested using shows like View from the Bay

Action Items

·        Mary Higgins has to resign from ATF, could have other HERC staff member apply in stead

·        Anjali get survey results from Cynthia regards what is know about products and their toxicity based on Environmental Committee project.

·        Get information on daily viewership of View from the Bay

 

III.   Clinical Committee

·        Nan showed the SFGH Peds Asthma Clinic promotional DVD created by SFGTV– available in English, Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, and Vietnamese; Discussed possible distribution routes via SF Asthma Network meeting on April 3rd; show to patients via DVD/web through primary care provider

·        Discussed resources available and desire to share and cross post

·        Sabrina Adler introduced herself and described her work at SFGH to develop a medical-legal partnership model; looking to expand the model.  Focus is on housing, disability, family law, education, healthcare (medicare and Medicaid), DV and family, immigrations, Public benefits

·        SF Asthma Network Meeting – April 3rd – third Save the Date going out

·        Gloria and Karen wrote Kaiser proposal for self-management and communication skills.

Action Items

·        Get SFGH video posted to SFGTV archive and Karen can link to it on website

·        All will share any resources they have with group

·        Karen will send SFE fact sheet as PDF

·        Anjali look into getting black and white versions of ATF flyers and translate into Russian

·        Anjali will submit nominations for Breathe California Clean Air Awards

·        Anjali will add Sabrina Adler to email list
