Minutes

 

Present:  Stephanie Manfre (on phone), Marie Hoemke, Sue Watson, Krista Ward and Jackie Chan

 

  1. Previous meeting minutes approved

    • On hold until Anjali returns.
    • Objectives need to be met by Feb 2010

 

  1. Child Care Workgroup

o       SF foundation grant submitted. 

 

  1. Environmentally Preferred Products (EPP’s)

·        Budgeted for 40 schools to receive microfiber mops ~$23,000. 

·        Training potentially needed on how to use new mops

·        Martin Escalante has $3,000 worth of products bought at the end of last year.  Waxy products, instead of alpha HP.  Alpha HP is a hydrogen peroxide product and can corrode metal.  Need to limit disinfectants.

·        MOU between task force and Dept of Env. to support school district, change city supplies, support toxic use reduction for consumers and support childcare project.

·        Dept of Env funded a principal from Fairmont to be a green consultant/manager. 

Action Items:  F/u with Debbie about the Green Consultant’s job description, goals & objectives, etc. Discuss policy with Jane Kim.

 

5.      Tools for Schools (TfS)

·        Jackie currently working on Tools for Schools database (modeled after US-EPA’s Healthy SEAT).  Need IT department to help complete.  Goal: Put it on school server.  Teachers without computers in their classroom can go to the lab.  Need to figure out how work orders will be processed.  Use Novato system as a model.

·        Breathe California can be a coordinator for stipend for tools for schools ($300/liason ~$12,900.  Make contract for 2 years)

·        Stipends needed for 8 people from last year and 5 new people

·        Goal: Recruit 25 additional people.  Waiting to hear back from Mayla about recruitment strategy.  Designate school health advocates so job will be mandated or recruit volunteers? 

·              Action Items:  September 9th Tools for Schools Workgroup Meeting. Letters of support for Jackie’s $10,000 EPA grant.  Stipends for TfS liaisons. See note in August 25th SFATF planning committee minutes about voided check.

 

 

7.   DAT

o       Three meetings scheduled this year.  Next meeting September 11th

 

8.   Board of Education End of Year Report

·        Meeting September 8th with Jane Kim. 

 

9. New American Media

o       Outreach to ethnic journalists in US.  They will put on a briefing event for journalists to get stories and we will provide interviewees. Producer interested in youth activists and toxic use reduction.

o       Youth Directed Activists:  Bay View YMCA, Environmental Justice Literacy, Crissy Field Center. Ardist
