c. Fiscal Report

Karen Cohn reported everything is proceeding as it should.  Karen is working on purchase requisition for Turn Here for World Asthma Day.

Karen Cohn stated she is purchasing some materials and supplies for people.  She is doing a lot of reproduction orders.

3.  World Asthma Day

Karen is working on producing a vignette, titled “Agents of Change”.  They will highlight the task force work with their partners.  They can be played on the internet and can be distributed.  They will focus on: clinical changes via the SFGH Clinic and Tom Wadell; the Housing Authority; and the School District Custodial Supervisor.  Mary Higgins is working on some other school sites.  If everything comes together in time, this can be released on World Asthma Day.

Anjali Nath asked that people contact her with any plans they have for World Asthma Day to be posted on the website.

Kaiser Permenente will be hosting an event on May 1 at 2238 Geary in the lobby.

Karen stated she spoke to Eileen Shield, Public Information Officer for the Health Department.  Eileen thought the Health Commission would be interested in a presentation.

4.  Sustainability Planning

Anjali Nath and Karen Cohn participated in a training for the Center for Civic Partnership Sustainability Toolkit.

Karen Cohn stated that while there is no specific mandate for the Health Department to pass on has arisen “How does the Task Force pass on programs to the community to keep the programs viable and keep the community involved?”

The Hospital Council, which includes all the hospitals in San Francisco, has many activities in common with each other.  One of the activities is representing to the Health Commission what interventions they have helped with relating to the three areas of the city represented by Supervisors Maxwell, Amiano and Dailey.  Karen has been representing the Task Force at their meetings.  She feels their funds can be better directed.  One example could be to have the Hospital Council provide in-kind support of staff to be used as trainers at City College for their asthma training.

Gloria Thornton stated the website needs a new name.  The proposed name of “Healthy San Francisco” is being used by the City.

Kate Lorenzen stated that RAMP, through CAFA, has been looking at the Center for Civic Partnerships Sustainability Toolkit as a resource.

The kit consists of 10 steps to be used when an organization begins to talk about sustainability.  It does not require everyone to be involved in all parts, but when assessing why sustainability and how the group defines sustainability, does require the entire groups participation.  The three aspects to look at are:  structure; funding and the program and policy work.  Also requiring attention is human capacity development and building.

A discussion was held regarding the definition of sustainability for the Asthma Task Force.  The definition includes ending up at a balanced place; reflecting on what has been accomplished; finding partners to continue the work and ensuring that the public become informed regarding what’s available.

5.  Announcements

Stephanie Manfre distributed a packet of information from CAFA.
