1. Budget Decisions re: DPHGeneral Fund allocation add-back

·         Karen wrote to DPH budget person regarding add-back.  Will need to send him budget modification for 2008-2009 otherwise line items from 2007-2008 will be replicated.  Karen shared copy of proposed budget.  Increased funding for Study evaluations, housing trainings.  Karen will contact Vickie Wells to discuss specifics of Tools for Schools database request.

·         Questions raised regarding giving funding to SFUSD Custodial services- DPH allocates funding to School Health Programs who then distributes to Custodial.  Committee feels that funding should be given directly to custodial services.  Karen will discuss with SFUSD as well as Jackie/Vickie.

·         New contract needs to be established with Breathe California.  Does it conflict with Tobacco Free contract with Breathe? Anjali will ask Karen L-F.

·         Rumors exist that mayor will slash add-backs in August/September.  ATF needs to plan advocacy effort.  Would be beneficial to meet with Katherine Dodd.  ATF has not had luck setting up meeting- Roma Guy may be able to assist.  Nani Colleretti is mayor’s budget person.  Rajiv has been working with her.  Bevan Dufty, an ally of the Mayor’s may be another important person to meet with regarding cuts and advocacy efforts.

·         Karen announced that the head of DBI has resigned

1a. Grant Coordination

·         For future planning efforts, any funding issues, applications in process, etc. should be placed as a standing agenda item on the planning agenda.  Action item vote should be held on all new applications.

·         For SFF LOI, Karen clarified that SF Department of the Environment has given $5000 of in-kind support to Alicia Culver to work on child care project, thus the reason funding for her is not included in proposal.  She has also expressed that she is only available to do technical support and consultation, not coordination of the project.

·         Important to ensure in all grant applications that ATF members are not competing against each other.

2. CAFA Grant Planning

·         Received funding for 20 months for CAFA.  Focus will be on consumer toxics use reduction.  Foundation of project for housing objective should be built upon SFE work with Walgreens and development of preferred products list.

·         Karen suggested that a sub-committee of the Environmental Committee be formed to focus on this work.  Very different than housing focus.   Could be a potential place for new members to join, Dennis, Mary.  Cynthia and Sraada from SFE could also join and convene with other interested parties around this issue/project.  Anjali will talk to SFE.

·         CAFA workplan will need to be created within 3 months.

·         Increased focus on State Policy work- Will invite Brandon from CAFA to September or December full task force meeting to discuss.

3. ATF Committee Updates

a. Environmental – planning trainings for fall.  Need location for September training.  Kaiser is a possibility for           September 19th.  Anjali to confirm with Peg by Friday, August 2nd.

b. Clinical- Working to pass pediatric hospitalization study project through UCSF IRB so study can be replicated at SFGH. Recently received extension of KP grant for $25K.  Next Network meeting October 3.

c. Schools & Child Care- Asthma Management issue still unresolved.  No DAT meetings have been planning for 08-09, very concerning.  Anjali to follow up with Kim Levine- is she new contact person? Suggested that asthma management forms be simplified- 1 form, 1 signature.  Needs to be increased outreach to parents, community about forms.

4. Breathe California, Breathe of Life Walk Participation –

·         Nicole Villanueva from Breathe California joined to announce Breathe of Life Walk on October 4th.  ATF could form a team or table in the expo zone.  Nicole gave her contact information for more info.
