SF Asthma Task Force

Clinical Committee Minutes

8/25/08


Attending: Marie Hoemke, Gloria Thornton, Peg Strub, Nan Madden, Krista Ward

 

October 3 SFAN Meeting:

o       CE’s for pharmacists & nurses. Difficult to find out about CEs for respiratory therapists

o       For Kaiser’s support, need something measurable about asthma.  # pulmonary function tests before and after? ER visits (OSHBA, CHIS, Healthy Kids, or CDC data)? Competence levels?

o       Need updated mailing list. 

o       Recruitment:  Call people?  Invite child care nurses? Send list to constitutes to see if right people are included?

o       Packets: Use file folders instead of bifolds.  Talks on different color paper.  Gloria will copy.

o       Peg will do an interactive case talk. Each table will receive a case to work on.  Nan will be a back-up in case Peg is absent.

 

Action Items: Peg will clarify measurement requirements, bring file folders and labels to Sept meeting, and discuss room set-up with Gail.  Gloria will double check speaker time preferences and send agenda.  Gloria will also e-mail Nan flyers.  Nan will print and distribute.

 

AAE

o       Almost 200 people attended throughout the country for July’s annual meeting.  Reports were positive about the experience.

o       Information on CDC “Power Breather” program for youth.

o       Does Gail H. have feedback on test? Does NAECB have organized way of getting and incorporating feedback about test? 

Action Items: Krista- e-mail Gloria “Power Breather” information.  Gloria will f/u with Karen about staff time to collect feedback for NAECB exam.

 

Committee Grants

o       CPMC- See minutes from 8/25/08 Planning Committee

o       Kaiser- Peg can get hospital data and do mailing (received by Breathe CA?)

Need: Focus groups with Kaiser docs. Incentives for pediatricians?  Possible strategy: Incorporate focus groups into staff meeting (Typically 15-20 docs present – break into 2-3 groups).

 

SFUSD

o       Nan wrote a draft for Nadine Burke’s template. Other committee members will review before next meeting. 

o       87 elementary schools in the district.

o       How to link Board of Supervisors (Public health dept) and Board of Education (School District)? Need:  Americorps volunteers to go to schools and build relationships.

o       Discuss Care Plans with Jane Kim on September 8th.  Care plans allow staff to care for kids beyond calling paramedics.
