I.  Reviewed minutes

2. Pesticide Work Update:

§         HA Bedbug IPM Project

o       Need to follow-up with HA to see if Anthony and Kyle have received quote from PestTec and discussed budget with boss (Henry).  Pilot proposed for building on CA and Scott and bldg next to HA Tenderloin headqtrs.

o       Krista – follow up with Allison T. re: estimate value of in-kind donation

§         SFAPT Assoc Article

o       Add resources of local IPM certified Pest Control Operators found at http://ecowisecertified.com/ecowise.find.html and other resources from sfenvironment.org/ipm.  Also discuss training Karen is organizing with SFAA (Vanessa) for their membership to educate the private sector property owners and managers about bedbugs.

o       Future articles re: getting hazardous waste out of home and using less toxic cleaning products.  Cynthia has article that was used in the past.

3.  Cleaning Products Update:

§         Green Seal Letter

o       Green Seal does not oversee disinfectants because they are regulated by EPA.  Therefore, take out last paragraph of current letter and revise table to highlight current GS8 products that contain asthmagens (Cynthia will see if intern can find these).  Change yellow to pink to visually show gradation in severity.

o       Need 2 strategies

i.                     Target organizations (below) that label non-disinfectant cleaners as “green” and write letter informing them about asthmagens (and D-limonene/citrus essential oils) and ask that asthma is included in their criteria (along with plant based and sustainable).  Acknowledge desire to be green, concern about human health, scientific evidence (including 72 cases of asthma from bleach (CA occupational asthma program); AOEC list; French list; WVE fact sheet), and request for change.

•GS8

•7th Generation (separate question – why have they not registered any peroxide products as disinfectant? Are they using virox stabilized hydrogen peroxide as used by Alpha HP and competitors?)

•Eco logo

•Design for Environment (Note: Weak standards, cheaper to get certified through them then through GS.  Can Design for Env. Provide t/a for GS? Tie with Good guide?)

•CA Green Initiative

ii.                   Work with EPA. Can they help determine which of their registered products are safe for asthma?  Get Asthma Program to talk with Pesticide Program for informational website.  Long-term -Develop a seal for disinfectants that don’t contain asthmagens.  Get help from Justine at Occupational health?

4.  Next Steps:  Review past minutes for educational strategies. Include:   The real need for antimicrobials and hydrogen peroxide products as a safe alternative to disinfectants.  Find top ten products marketed as green, certify they are safe, and publicize. Add media discussion to July 27th full Task Force meeting
