Planning Committee Monthly Meeting

 Meeting Minutes 

In Attendance:  Gloria Thornton, Karen Cohn, Nan Madden, Louanne Lee, Rene Gonzalvez, Sue Watson, Krista Ward, Anjali Nath, Marie Hoemke via phone

 

II.    Amend/Confirm Agenda

 

 

III. KPOO Radio Series

·        Rene is waiting for a response from the program director of KPOO

·        Rene has been assured 3 dates for January

·        Group brainstormed future speakers:

o       Barbara Spark, US EPA Region 9 – mold

o       Gordon Mar, BAEHC – BAAQMD – CEQA land use guidance, new source review

o       Sarah Seibold, Health First at St. Luke’s

o       Adult Asthma Clinic (SFGH) – Healhty SF/COPD clinic in Family Health Center (George, Stephanie, Gail)

o       PODER, Charley or Antonio – Air pollution

o       Child Care bleach project – Luz and Cynthia

o       Code Enforcement – Helen Z.

 

TO DO:

       Rene will look into whether KPOO has a Chinese audience

       Karen to send code enforcement contacts

       Anjali will ask about conversion of CD to digital files

 

 

IV.  Ken Toren, Director of Development, Sandler Centers for Basic Research in Asthma and Parasitic Diseases University of California, San Francisco

– was not present

 

 

V.     Fund Raising Planning (10 mins)

·        Look into UC community benefits grants

·        Look into Kaiser grant due Dec 31st

·        Sue suggested the idea of solicitation letters which the group thought was promising and discussed some potential funders  to look into (Genentech, Bank of America, Walkgreens, Wells Fargo, Union Bank, US Bank, look at Foundation Center lists, Hills Physicians Group, Marin County Day, Dey in Napa, United Way, www.chooseadonor.com, Pharmaceutical companies [March], pest control, car/auto dealers, St. Mary’s Hospital, St. Francis Hospital, individual donors, Giants, 49ers, rollerderby, etc. ) – can write  a generic LOI

·        Karen explained the agreement Cole Hardware committed to to have consumers contribute 2% to projects and write an article for the newsletter

 

VI.  Committee Issues/Crucial Updates (35 mins)

-Clinical Committee Update

·        Will be meeting in January

·        Gloria will contact Peg to coordinate

-Tools for Schools Update (Jackie/Anjali)

·        Jackie can present at January ATF meeting and perhaps at DAT meeting

·        Need to get clarification on whether all schools have Alpha HP

·        Get profile of CDC sites

·        Anjali to forward Martin’s protocol to karen

-Update on Schools and ChildCare project/initiatives & overlap

·        Anjali working to bridge the gap by linking the child care and Tools for Schools projects to help SFUSD fully transition to all green cleaning products and to support completion of Reducing Overuse of Bleach project.

-RAMP Legacy Grant Update (Krista)

·        Put together a great initial training for HRC staff and Sara was going to see 3rd St. site.

 

 

VII.           CAFA Items (15 mins) - Anjali

a.      Report back on CAFA Annual Meeting

·        Anjali and Krista relayed discussions held about sustainability and fundraising

b.      Planning for CAFA Reports  - tabled

 

 

VIII.        Set January Quarterly Meeting Agenda (10 mins)

·        KPOO update

·        Presentation on Child Care project

·        Plan for WAD

·        Tools for Schools update

·        Teen page on ATF website

·        Anjali will reserve the room

 

IX.        Announcements (10 mins)

·        Karen passed out an article on Teens and Asthma.  Louanne will share with Job Alike secondary nurses and wellness center at SFUSD

       Marie urges touching base with MCAH directors. Gloria, Anjali, Marie send an invite to January meeting

       Nan will send pictures that can be used

       Gloria will talk to adoclescent working group and CCHRC

       Questions are about what kids misunderstand, what questions they have, denial, where to get care

·        Spirometry training was held for SFGH peds and adult services at Tom Waddell

       Gloria will email Peg to set up Clinical Committee Meeting.  Look at data from asthma updates.

·        Wyile L, Director of Community Programs, can connect institutes and programs with people in the community

·        Leslie W. from Government Relations – community benefits partnerships

·        Andrea Crosby is coordinating asthma training for HERC

·        Louanne did a training for HERC on working in schools and Open Airways

·        Anthem Blue Cross Recognition Luncheon on Wednesday

·        Obesity Conference on Feb 27th at Milton Marks Conference Center www.sfbreastfeeding.org
