ATF Communications Activity – Overview and follow-up
Karen and Anjali provided an overview of the discussion held at the February ATF meeting at which Public Media Center (PMC) facilitated discussion on communications strategies and tactics to support task force and committee priorities. This lead into a discussion about this committee’s private housing efforts and ways to promote Healthy, Affordable Housing. See attached diagram for an overview of the discussion and options for addressing this goal. The question that arose was given all the potential avenues, what should be the focus of this committee.
Agreed that MOCD might be able to connect us to the Mayor who is essential for reaching Policy and Planning. Committee discussed preparing for a meeting with the Mayor at which we would present a 1-page proposal on healthy housing as being a part of his family retention and Communities of Opportunity efforts. Agreed to also present concrete steps for action.
Discussed connecting with potential partners – Maria X. Martinez – Families in SROs
Utilize stats on numbers of children in public assistance programs.
Anjali asked for clarification on funding streams for housing. Karen and Louise clarified that
MOH gets funding from HUD and parcels that out to Tenderloin Neighborhood Development, etc.
SF Redevelopment Agency get money from property taxes, bonds; can earn interest
AIMCO is a type of section 8 private housing developer; Developers get tax credits for building housing and holding costs down which would go up later.
