  4. Directorā€™s Report
    Mr. DeCaigny began his report with a heartfelt remembrance of the late Mayor Ed Lee, highlighting his important leadership in support of the arts in San Francisco.
    Ā 
    Next, Mr. DeCaigny reported on the hiring of Barbara Mumby as the permanent Director of Community Investments; she had served in the role as interim since the retirement of Judy Nemzoff in July. He explained that a search would begin to fill the now-vacant Senior Program Officer position.
    Ā 
    He reported on the budget process and timeline, and briefly discussed budget set-aside reform legislation under consideration by the Board of Supervisors that would potentially affect the very longstanding financial relationship between the Arts Commission and the San Francisco Symphony; the measure is expected to go to the voters in June. Mr. DeCaigny will continue to keep the Commission informed.

    Mr. DeCaigny reported on several activities of the agency, including a number of events presented by the Galleries, the launch of a survey on affordable artist housing and the selection of a number of artists for projects on Treasure Island,

      1. Commissioner Stryker reported that the Committee had reviewed three projects: the Mariposa Pump Station, the Southeast Biosolids Digester and the Willie Woo Woo Wong Playground, which she described as a little gem.

      1. Commissioner Keehn reported on two temporary projects that will be installed at Patricia's Green. Commissioner Sklar added that the two finalist projects were very competitive, and the Committee was pleased that both projects will be able to be shown.

RESOLUTION NO. 0108-18-009: Motion to approve Phase 2 of the Southeast Plant Biosolids Digester Facilities Project contingent upon 1) studying alternative designs of the plaza paving and delineation, 2) studying fountain panel spacing and size, 3) adding variety in the terra cotta palette, 4) refining the accent color of the campus, 5) reducing the view of columns of the maintenance buildingā€™s overhang roof, 6) refining the maintenance buildingā€™s overhang roof to look lighter, 7) providing design and materials of the guard rail in the next review in the overall building renderings will be acceptable, 8) working with a signage consultant or in-house design professional to come up with a unified campus signage design, and 9) studying the spacing and shape of the perforated panels and its support system to avoid moire patterning.

    8. RESOLUTION NO. 0108-18-011: Motion to approve the mural design of First Stop, Last Stop by artist Jeffrey Canham. The painted mural will be on three exterior walls at 4301 Judah Street, on the corner of Judah and La Playa Streets on the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency operator restroom. The painted mural will measure approximately 8 ft. x 10 ft., 16 ft. x 10 ft., and 8 ft. x 10 ft. This temporary mural project will be installed for 18 months. The project is funded by the San Francisco Parks Alliance; the painted mural will not become part of the Civic Art Collection.

    11. RESOLUTION NO. 0108-18-014: Motion to approve the bronze cast of the bust of former Mayor Gavin Newsom by Bruce Wolfe. The bust is an intended gift to the City by ArtCare, a nonprofit organization.

RESOLUTION NO. 0108-18-015: Motion to approve the display of a sculpture entitled Squared by artist Charles Gadeken in Patriciaā€™s Green for a period from January 2018 through January 2019, and to authorize the Director of Cultural Affairs to execute a loan agreement with the artist for $45,000 inclusive of honorarium, loan fee, engineering, insurance, transportation, installation, deinstallation and periodic maintenance of the work during the term of its display, pending approval from the Recreation and Park Commission.

RESOLUTION NO. 0108-18-016: Motion to approve the display of a sculpture entitled Tara by artist Dana Albany in Patriciaā€™s Green for a period from January 2019 through January 2020, and to authorize the Director of Cultural Affairs to execute a loan agreement with the artist for $20,000 inclusive of honorarium, loan fee, engineering, insurance, transportation, installation, deinstallation and periodic maintenance of the work during the term of its display, pending approval from the Recreation and Park Commission.

    Mr. DeCaigny announced the two art fairs in San Francisco this week, FOG and Untitled, noting that both he and Director of Special Projects Jill Manton would participate in panels at the fairs. Commissioner Keehn particularly recommended the presentation by artist/activist Theaster Gates. Commissioners were excited to have both events in town, and urged everyone to attend.
