Motion to authorize the Director of Cultural Affairs to enter into sole source lease and operating agreements with the African American Art and Culture Complex, the Bayview Opera House Inc., Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts and SOMArts for fiscal years 2021-2022 to ensure the City-owned cultural centers remain open, accessible and vital contributors to the cultural life of the City.

    5. Motion to approve the Native American Arts and Cultural Traditions Special Grant funding recommendation to award the American Indian Cultural Center (Fiscal Sponsor: Intersection for the Arts) for works of art placed throughout the American Indian Cultural District to honor American Indian culture, history, people, and contributions; and, to authorize the Director of Cultural Affairs to enter into a grant agreement not to exceed $100,000 at this time.

Motion to rescind Resolution # 0106-20-021 authorizing the Director of Cultural Affairs to enter into contract with Lite Brite Neon Studio LLC for an amount not to exceed $632,000 for fabrication and transportation of an artwork by Andrea Bowers (DBA Radical Patience Inc.) for the San Francisco International Airport: Terminal 1 Underpass Lighting Project.

    7. Motion to authorize the Director of Cultural Affairs to enter into contract with Lite Brite Neon Studio LLC for an amount not to exceed $45.660 for design of an artwork by Andrea Bowers (DBA Radical Patience Inc.) for the San Francisco International Airport: Harvey Milk Terminal 1 Underpass Lighting Project.

    8. Motion to approve Together We Grow, a mosaic design by artist Kim Jensen. The mosaic will be installed on the Ramsell Streel Stairs (Brotherhood Way). The mosaic will be installed on 24 steps, measuring 5.5 ft. high by 8 ft. wide. The project is funded by a Community Challenge Grant. The mosaic will not become part of the Civic Art Collection.

    23. Motion to approve the selected artist, Juana Alicia Araiza, and proposal for the Mission Branch Library Project, as recommended by the Mission Branch Library Artist Review Panel.

    24. Motion to authorize the Director of Cultural Affairs to enter into a contract with Juana Alicia Araiza for an amount not to exceed $71,500 for the design, engineering, fabrication, transportation and installation consultation of an artwork for the Mission Branch Library Project.

    25. Motion to approve the Construction Document Phase deliverables (Sample Mock-ups and Construction Document Drawings) by Raylene Gorum for the India Basin Shoreline Park— 900 Innes Project.

      Visual Arts Committee Recommendations (September 8, 2021, link to agenda)
      Action

    26. Motion to approve the reinstallation of Entwined Meadow, a multi-component LED sculptural installation by artist Charles Gadeken, previously approved under Resolution # 1005-20-157. The work will be newly installed in its prior location in Peacock Meadow in Golden Gate Park, with slight modifications design. The work will be on view December 1, 2021 – February 1, 2022 through the sponsorship of the SF Parks Alliance.

    27. Motion to approve Untitled, a mural design by artist Darin Balaban. The mural will be installed underneath the Kensington Pedestrian Bridge. The painted mural will be installed on five pillars of the bridge: three pillars are 20 ft., one pillar is 15 ft., and one is 2 ft. The project is funded by residents of Mira Loma and West Portal. The mural will not become part of the Civic Art Collection.

    28. Motion to deaccession from the Civic Art Collection, at the request of the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department, Martha Heavenston's custom tile mosaic artwork A World View, 1989 (Accession No. 1989.25.a-i) consisting of 8 individual sculptures mounted on a concrete playground retaining wall and a tile mosaic frieze above the entrance at the Gene Friend Recreation Center, to make way for the construction of a new recreation center and playground.

    29. Motion to approve, at the request of the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department, the removal and destruction of materials making up Martha Heavenston's artwork A World View, 1989 (Accession No. 1989.25.a-i) located at the Gene Friend Recreation Center, as the estimated costs to remove and reintegrate the artwork are very high, and in excess of the value of the artwork. In addition, conservation assessments determined that the artwork could not likely be removed without causing irreparable damage to the original work.

    30. Motion to approve the seven final designs by Kimberley Arteche for the 2021 Art on Market Street Kiosk Poster Series.

Meeting Procedures

1. Agenda items will normally be heard in order. Please note, that on occasion a special circumstance may necessitate that an agenda item be taken out of order. To ensure that an agenda item is not missed, it is advised to arrive at the beginning of the meeting. All agenda changes will be announced by the Chair at the top of the meeting.

2. Public comment will be taken before or during the Committee’s consideration of each agenda item. Each speaker will be allowed to speak for the time allotted by the Chair at the top of the meeting or up to three (3) minutes. 

3. During General Public Comment, members of the public may address the Commissioners on matters that are within the Arts Commission’s jurisdiction and are not on the agenda.

根據美國殘疾人士法案和語言服務條例,中文、西班牙語、和/或美國手語翻譯人員在收到要求後將會提供翻譯服務。另外,我們將盡力提供擴音設備。同時也將會提供不同格式的會議資料, 和/或者提供閱讀器。此外,翻譯版本的會議記錄可在委員會通過後提供。上述的要求,請於會議前最少48小時致電415-252-2255向Alyssa Ventre提出。逾期提出的請求,若可能的話,亦會被考慮接納。聽證室設有輪椅通道。

POLITICA DE ACCESO A LA REUNIÓN

De acuerdo con la Ley sobre Estadounidenses con Discapacidades (American Disabilities Act) y la Ordenanza de Acceso a Idiomas (Language Access Ordinance) intérpretes de chino, español, y lenguaje de señas estarán disponibles de ser requeridos. En adición, se hará todo el esfuerzo posible para proveer un sistema mejoramiento de sonido, materiales de la reunión en formatos alternativos, y/o proveer un leedor. Las minutas podrán ser traducidas luego de ser aprobadas por la Comisión. Para solicitar estos servicios, favor contactar a Commission Secretary, Alyssa Ventre, por lo menos 48 horas antes de la reunión al 415-252-2255. Las solicitudes tardías serán consideradas de ser posible. La sala de audiencia es accesible a silla de ruedas.

Patakaran para sa pag-access ng mga Miting

Ang mga kaganapan ng miting ay maaring isalin sa ibang wika matapos ito ay aprobahan ng komisyon. Sa mga ganitong uri ng kahilingan, mangyari po lamang makipag ugnayan kay Commission Secretary Alyssa Ventre sa 415-252-2255. Magbigay po lamang ng hindi bababa sa 48 oras na abiso bago ng miting.
