3. Mariposa Pump Station Project: Phase #3

   The design team presented updates to their project, addressing the comments stated in their previous review. In response to lighting, the team shared that the Port wanted the building to blend into the background and therefore would not uplight the building other than providing lighting for security purposes. They shared that a matte finish clear graffiti coating would be used for the walls and that the reveal patterns on the wall were adjusted slightly to minimize the cracking in the concrete. In regards to the landscape, the team simplified the planting palette by removing the agave plant and three other species from the blue greenway planting. The team showed the updated elevations and perspectives of the building.
   
   The Committee praised the team, as their presentation provided reference of last review’s comments and the team responses. They felt that the project team addressed all the contingencies and exclaimed that it was a terrific design for a functional building. The motion was unanimously approved.

4. Southeast Plant Biosolids Digester Facilities Project: Phase #2

   The design team presented updates to the entire Southeast Plant Biosolids Digester Facilities project that was reviewed in sub-projects this year. This review included the Biosolids Dewatering facility, Solids Pretreatment facility, Anaerobic Digestion facility, Maintenance Shops 1 & 2 buildings, and the Energy Recovery facility. The team began by providing updates to the Building 600 Entry Court. They presented the site plan, hardscape materials, plaza-plant elevation, and planting palette. They then showcased the updated water fountain design by Fluidity Design Consultants for the plaza area. Next, the team reviewed the campus design elements and materials which included the stair towers, terra cotta panels and sunshades, concrete reveal patterns, roof, perforated metals, and signage. Finally, the team reviewed the design of each structure of the Biosolids Digester Facilities, going over the design and elevation of each structure. Specifically, the team shared their updates to the Maintenance buildings, which include increasing the depth of the zinc shroud at the shops, replacing the terra cotta with fiber cement panels on the plant-side of the buildings, and development of campus-wide graphics and color palettes implemented on the building.
   
   The Committee recommended the team invest in putting together a full scale mock up of key pieces of the buildings, in order to help envision the development of the project. They felt this was an important step to take in minimizing presumptions during construction and save soft costs later. In regards to the gathering plaza, the Committee suggested studying different spacing and size of the fountain wall panels and making the stainless steel pavement and delineation not as literal. For the maintenance building, the Committee asked that team bring lightness back to the roof and to reduce the view of its columns, as well as see details of the guard rail in the next review. For the Anaerobic Digestion facility, the Committee asked that the team be careful of the perforated panel connections to ensure it would not create a moire pattern effect. In regards to the overall campus elements, the Committee ask the team to look at a varied terra cotta palette, to refine the accent colors that would represent the circulation of the campus, and to look into a consultant for the campus signage readability and bird perching. Lastly, the Committee asked that the team return for an informal meeting. The motion was approved with these contingencies.

   Motion to approve Phase #2 of the Southeast Plant Biosolids Digester Facilities Project contingent upon 1) studying alternative designs of the plaza paving and delineation, 2) studying fountain panel spacing and size, 3) adding variety in the terra cotta palette, 4) refining the accent color of the campus, 5) reducing the view of columns of the maintenance building’s overhang roof, 6) refining the maintenance building’s overhang roof to look lighter, 7) providing design and materials of the guard rail in the next review in the overall building renderings will be acceptable, 8) working with a signage consultant or in-house design professional to come up with a unified campus signage design, and 9) studying the spacing and shape of the perforated panels and its support system to avoid moire patterning.
5. Willie Woo Woo Wong Playground Project: Phase #3

   The design team began by presenting updates to the play area, including updates to the fencing strategy, play surface, and providing materials. The project team shared that they would lower the fence and gate heights, and use all black picket fence and metalco fencing. They also provided a fence material sample. In regards to the play surface area, they suggested four materials which include synthetic grass, and three play surface color mixes – blue, green, and grey. Court surfacing would consist of plexipave light green and plexipave true blue. The team provided samples for these multiple play surfaces. The design team moved on to present the clubhouse updates, showing the floor plans, updated material palette with samples, cross sections, and interior and exterior renderings.
   
   The Committee suggested  that the project team look further into a deeper recess between the yellow and white of the Waverly Street façade. The Committee also suggested having a maintenance contingency for the white façade due to possible dirt build up. Lastly, it was suggested that the yellow accent color of the clubhouse could be integrated to the color of the play structure to provide continuity throughout the site. The motion was unanimously approved.

   Motion to approve Phase #3 of the Willie Woo Woo Wong Playground Project.
