A) Commendation to San Francisco Fire Dept. for Rescue of Otter the Cat. On February 21, 2015, fire seriously damaged three apartment buildings in San Francisco, the second recent major fire in the area A dozen people got out of the buildings unharmed, but Otter the cat was found by firefighters in an apartment suffering from smoke inhalation. Oscar was initially unresponsive, but firefighters gave him oxygen at the scene and he was revived. The Commission will commend the San Francisco Fire Department for their heroic actions to save Otter the cat. [Discussion/Action Item][Commissioner Johnson]
B) Honoring Dogs Who Serve at the San Francisco Veterans Day Parade. For the past nine years, former Commissioner June Wilson has organized a contingent of military and other service dogs and their handlers to march in the San Francisco Veterans Day Parade. She has persuaded canine handlers from Beale and Travis Air Force Bases, the Coast Guard, the SF Police Dept, the USDA’s Beagle Brigade, Guide Dogs for the Blind, and others to join in the march. Wilson will describe the march and her experiences organizing the canine handlers and ask for help continuing this tradition of honoring dogs who serve in the 2015 Veterans Day Parade and in subsequent years’ parades.

C) Introduction of New Director of Animal Care and Control. The appointment of Virginia Donohue to be the new Director of Animal Care and Control was announced last month and she has been on the job since the beginning of this month. She will introduce herself to Commissioners and to the public.
