            In President Phair’s absence, action determining areas for Commission action over the current year will be deferred until the April Commission meeting.

6.  Director’s Report


(a) Discussion and possible action regarding the Department of Elections     annual budget.

                                                                                                                                                                  (b) Status of special election scheduled for May 19, 2009 including the status of the California Secretary of State ("SoS") continuing or recertification of San Francisco's voting equipment beyond the one-time certification issued by the SoS for the November 4, 2008 presidential election as reported by the Director at the Commission's October 15, 2008 meeting, the status of plans for use of DRE tabulators for vote counting and election day results, and      plans for ballot remaking.                            

 

7.   New Business

 

(a) Discussion and possible action to submit a request to the Board of Supervisors of the City and County of San Francisco ("BoS") for a waiver allowing certain city employees or officers to work on the May 19, 2009 special election.

 

(b)  Discussion and possible action to authorize Commissioners to observe all phases of elections activities, including but not limited to pollworker training, materials assembly and distribution, election day activities, and post-election and canvass activities.

 

(c)  Discussion and possible action to direct communication to the BoS clarifying that the BoS' Voting Systems Task Force needs to include in its discussions, deliberations and possible suggestions options for voting systems equipment that first meet minimum standards including but not limited to compliance with federal Help America Vote Act requirements and San Francisco Charter provisions requiring ranked choice voting.  (Commissioners Gleason and Matthews)

The Elections Commission meeting will be held in Room 408, City Hall, 1 Dr. Carlton B. Goodlett Place, San Francisco, CA. The Commission meeting room is wheelchair accessible.
