APRIL 18, 2012 REGULAR MEETING

 

 

The Police Commission of the City and County of San Francisco met in Room 400, City Hall, #1 Dr. Carlton B. Goodlett Place, San Francisco, at 5:34 p.m.

PRESENT: Commissioners Mazzucco, Marshall, DeJesus, Chan, Kingsley, Slaughter, Turman

Tom Silhorst discussed concerns of officers endorsing political candidates and concerns regarding Patrol Special Officers.

Emile Lawrence discussed an officer that was hired to investigate taxicab drivers and suggested putting out advertising ads to announce Commission meetings. (documents submitted)

Clyde spoke of an officer charged with domestic violence and discussed stolen cell phones.

Quint discussed pedestrian death on Market and Castro Streets and discussed concerns regarding not being able to file a police report in regards to an accident in front of his house.

Presentation of the OCC’s Monthly Comprehensive Statistical Report and Companion Reports for the periods March 1, 2012 through March 31, 2012 & Adjudication of Sustained Complaints in March 2012

 

Director Hicks reported on recent activities including cases opened and cases mediated.

Director Hicks then presented the OCC’s Monthly Comprehensive Statistical Report and companion reports.

Commissioner Mazzucco reported on recent activities.

d. Commission Announcements and scheduling of items identified for consideration at future Commission meetings

Inspector Monroe announced that next week’s meeting will be in the Taraval District at AP Giannini Elementary School.

Commissioner Mazzucco would like to have the next district meeting in the Tenderloin District.

PUBLIC COMMENT

Emile Lawrence discussed concerns and asked for reports.

APPROVAL OF THE AWARDS COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION

Commissioner Mazzucco gave a brief history of the Award Committee meeting.

Commissioner Kingsley would like summaries of events be posted on the website.

AWARDS GRANTED TO MEMBERS OF THE POLICE DEPARTMENT

WHEREAS, the following named members of the Police Department are commended for courageous service under the provisions of General Order 3.09, Section I.A.1 of the San Francisco Police Department, as approved by the Awards Committee on March 21, 2012; and

WHEREAS, Chief of Police Gregory P. Suhr has recommended to the Police Commission that the said members be rewarded under the provisions of Section 8.405(a)(4) of the Charter of the City and County of San Francisco; and

RESOLVED, that Officers Patrick Griffin, Michael Tursi, Thomas Minkel, Joseph Everson, Richard Hastings, and Matthew Lopez are hereby awarded Gold Medals of Valor and granted rewards of $1500.00 each, as provided for under said section of the Charter; and be it further

RESOLVED, that Sergeants Scott Ryan, Joshua Espinoza, Officers Albert Lieu, Ruben Reyes, William Heppler, Troy Carrasco, Daniel Solorzano, and Viet Q. Ha are hereby awarded the Silver Medal of Valor and granted a reward of $1000.00, as provided for under said section of the Charter; and be it further

RESOLVED, that Sergeants Daniel Manning, Joseph Barretta, Shaughn Ryan, Officers Ryan Jones, Eric Tapang, Elizabeth Morse, Mark Milligan, Matthew Elseth, and James Johnson are hereby awarded Bronze Medals of Valor and granted rewards of $500.00 each, as provided for under said section of the Charter; and be it further

RESOLVED, that Lieutenant Ed Santos, Jr., Sergeant Richard Jones, Inspectors Donna Loftus, Al Lum, Stephen Paulsen, and Officer Mary Godfrey are hereby awarded the Meritorious Conduct Award and granted rewards of $200.00 each, as provided for under said section of the Charter.
