The Police Commission of the City and County of San Francisco met in the Tenderloin District, 201 Turk Street, San Francisco, at 6: 10 p.m.

Commissioner Mazzucco welcomed the audience and asked the Commissioners to introduce themselves.

RESOLVED, that the Police Commission hereby approves the request of Officer Philip Helmer to accept a gift of a commemorative wooden jewelry box from the United States Golf Association (USGA), valued at $75.00.

AYES: Commissioners Mazzucco, Marshall, Chan, Kingsley, Loftus

ABSENT: Commissioners DeJesus, Turman

Chief Suhr reported on recent activities in the department including the Pride celebration and gave a brief update on crime statistics and staffing. The Chief also talked about the Police Foundation and its recent event at John’s Grill.

Director Hicks introduced herself and Chief Investigator Galman, and went on to talked about the duties and responsibilities of the OCC.

Captain Garrity addressed the Commission on police activities in the Tenderloin District and went on to talked about crime statistics and the demographic of the Tenderloin District.

Pat Zamora, Boys and Girls Club SF, talked about the Safe Passage Steering Committee and asked for support to continue their efforts with safety for the kids in the neighborhood.

M.J., talked about walking with her camera and taking pictures of people who sells drugs in the neighborhood. She went on to talk about concerns about drugs in the community. She asked for help from the Commission to put more police officers in the streets.

Clyde talked about how the Tenderloin is a unique community and commended Captain Garrity.

Michael Naulty, Alliance for a Better District 6, congratulated the Tenderloin District in staying number 1 for arrests. He went on to talk about the problem of resale of drugs in the community. He also talked about lack of open space in the district.

Abdulla Foley II discussed concerns about not having enough space to play ball in the neighborhood and asked for more playgrounds.

Maria agreed with Abdulla that the district need more parks.

Susan Brandt, Eddy & Jones resident, asked what resources are available for veterans in the neighborhood.

Jessica talked about the yellow and orange bricks outside on the sidewalks and smoking.

Abdulla agreed with Jessica and talked about his brother who had an asthma attacked because of people smoking in the streets.

John Nulty talked about problems with smoking and what it’s doing to the neighborhood and parks and in front of buildings. He went on to talk about concerns with the liquor establishments and asked that liquor permits should be online and accessible to the public.
