Veterans Affairs Commission (VAC) Corrected Minutes
Tuesday, October 10, 2017, 1800

Location: Room 416, San Francisco City Hall President Michael Maffei, Presiding

Call to Order: Meeting was called to order by President Maffei at 1800, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

Roll Call:
Present: Barnickel, Campbell, Dacumos, Flaherty, Joiner, Kennedy, Maffei, Marshall, Miller, Weeby, Wong and Wyatt (12).
Excused: Chasteen, Noetzel, Olivieri (3).

Review of Meeting Agenda
The meeting agenda was reviewed, and a motion to adopt was approved unanimously (Kennedy was first/Joiner second).
Review of Draft Minutes of SFVAC meeting of Sept 12, 2017.
Amendment made by Campbell (2nd Maffei) to correct Commissioner Barnickel's last name. Motion approved unanimously.

Call for Public Comment
Sean Ansted, from Senator Harris' office, introduced himself and expressed support for the VAC and upcoming Veterans Day Parade.

Officers' Reports:
President's Report
VAC bylaws have been updated on the City Website (PDF is available). Upcoming SF Mayor's Salute to Veterans Parade on November 12th at 1100 (Fishermans Wharf).
Army General Robert Brown is a giving a lecture on Thursday November 12th at 1830 at the Common Wealth Club. Link for event in is the agenda.
Vice President's Report
Warm welcome back to Commissioner Dacumos.
Secretary's Report
Nothing to report.

Old Business: Commissioner Barnickel reported on outreach at City College. There were 50 organizations present and 200 applications received. Commissioner Flaherty and Olivieri attended.
New Business: Commissioners individually reported on progress of distribution of letter and USC veterans report to the Board of Supervisors (BOS). Commissioner also Miller added there will be an upcoming groundbreaking ceremony for new veterans housing in District 10 (date TBD). 

Veterans Related Legislation:
Commissioner Barnickel reports that the elder veterans abuse program is going into phase 2. Press conference is on November 9th. Commissioner Miller reports on possible legislative changes to VBA (GI Bill) and the status of the VA's Choice program. Barnickel was also invited by the 23rd/ 43rd Infantry to go to the Marines Ball (representing the Commission).
