Veterans Affairs Commission (VAC) Minutes

President Kennedy, Presiding

 

Call to Order: Meeting was called to order by Vice President Kennedy at 1800, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

Roll Call:
Present: Barnickel, Campbell, Flaherty, Joiner, Kennedy, Marshall, Miller, Noetzel, Olivieri, Wong (10).
Excused: Chasteen, Dacumos, Maffei, Weeby, Wyatt (5).

 

Review of Meeting Agenda

Motion to review agenda: (Noetzel/ 2nd Joiner). Vote: unanimous pass.

 

Review of Draft Minutes of SFVAC meeting of February 13, 2017.

Campbell proposes an amendment: Clarification about Judy Wu case. 1st Barnickel/ 2nd Miller. Vote: unanimous pass.

 

Call for Public Comment

None given.

 

Officers’ Reports:
President’s/ Vice President’s/ Secretary’s Report
President Kennedy emphasizes the importance of safety and vigilance. Emergency services is on ground floor of City Hall. Their # is 554-7251.

 

Mailing address has changed: Room 200 @ City Hall.

 

New applicants: 13 applications. President met w/ rules committee and we should be going to hearing shortly. There may be a special meeting on April 1. We have 2 current vacancies.
 

Old Business: None.  

 

New Business: Presentation by Director Carr w/ Veteran’s County Service, followed by questions by the VAC.

 
Commissioner Noetzel gives update and distributed letter on moving the WWI monument memorial stone from Golden Gate Park to the Veteran’s Building.


President Kennedy announced this movement is already going on. VAC to make contact with this making the move. There will be a finalization next VAC meeting.

 

Communications

Commissioner Miller gives update on Mission Bay veterans housing ground-breaking. Commissioner Barnickel was invited to Community Investment Commission, to represent the VAC. Commissioner Noetzel report on communication w/ Supervisor Ronen regarding 16th Street clean up.

 

Veterans Related Legislation:
Campbell reports on proclamation by Governor Brown: week of March 12th is Women’s Military History Week. Additional info about illicit photo’s on Dropbox. UCMJ has adjusted to ban this type of activity. Commissioner Miller reports on new legislation being introduced and VA updates.

 

Honors Report and Moment of Silence:

Commissioner Kennedy reads APA statement about shooting death in Yountville and makes dedication to those killed in the shooting. Kennedy reads honors report and asked for a moment of silence.

 

Adjournment: Meeting was adjourned at 1906.
