Matt Cox (Navy Veteran) – would like VAC to add VA Home Loan process as discussion item for next month. System is inadequate (7 months long). Looking to make recommendations for BOS.

All required notices were reported on time.

BOS appointments and reappointments to Commission expiring January 31, 2019 are coming up. Notices for consideration for appointment or reappointment are due by next meeting to City Clerk’s Office, both for prospective and current Commissioners, so that the BOS can vet applications and schedule rules committee meeting.

 

  1. Old Business:
    1. Veterans Honor Initiative

MONS handling nominations: Wallace Levin, Christopher Starling, Paul Cox, Michael Blecker.

Commissioner Ellis nominated Ikram Mansori and will provide write-up.

Commissioner Noetzel nominated Michael Blecker and will provide write-up.

 

 

  1. New Business:

 

a. Presentation by Roark O’Neal (SOMA Rotary Club) regarding bike building and donations to veterans organizations next Saturday at 9 am at Atwater Tavern. Needs $5,000-$7,000 cost covered and need for year-round storage (15,000-20,000 sq feet) – possibilities for storage: bicycle coalition, War Memorial Veterans Building, Mayor’s Office. Also needs media contacts.

 

b. Nominations for 2019 VAC Officer Elections.

 

President: Kennedy, Chasteen.

VP: Olivieri.

Secretary: Wong, Brauer.

 

  1. Communications:  Commissioners report on Communications with the Mayor’s Office

and/or Board of Supervisors.

 

Met with Mayor’s Office and BOS to discuss improvements to Veterans Day Parade.

 

  1. Veterans Related Legislation:  New or possible legislation affecting Veterans or Veterans Community

 

Delayed GI Bill Payments

Outsourcing of VA Health

 

  1. Honors Report and Moment of Silence:  In memory of American Armed Service Members who have made the ultimate sacrifice in all wars and conflicts, plus the passing of homeless veterans and veterans who died while waiting approval of benefits requests and suicides within the veterans and armed services community.
