VAC APPROVED Meeting Minutes – May 8, 2018


Attendance: Kennedy, Chasteen, Oliviary, Campbell, Flaherty, Dacumos, Joiner, Wong,

Absent: Weeby, Marshall, Maffei,


Agenda – Noetzel motion to adopt, Dacumos seconded, Passed Unanimous.


Minutes – Olivieri motion to adopt (with change of date to 2018, 2 excused absences, and
minor spelling), Noetzel, second, Passed Unanimous.


President Report – Rules Committee is upcoming (need to get on agenda) to fill open seats on
VAC.


Dacumos (WWI Memorial Cemetery needs to have 3 more names added to their
memorial plaque at St. Dominic’s, VAC needs to review bill ###). Note: Dacumos will send bill
details.


Olivieri (Poster distributed via email and second one distributed during meeting –
Presidio events and order of ceremonies included.
Flaherty (was interview by news media to talk about TBI, met in DC to discuss Veterans
issues.


VP Report – none.
Secretary Report – none.


Old Business – Mayoral Forum is a “go” May 26, 3-5 pm, War Memorial Veterans Building.
New Business –
Presentation by Pearci Bastiay regarding free supportive housing for homeless veterans
as a non-profit program (free food, transportation to VA, and other services to veterans in
exchange for non-profit volunteer work with another entity) with funding from xxx (unsecured)
and container homes located in vacant building sites. Not a well-thought plan (needs to have
demolition permits and get City to buy units).
Barnickle Report on communications with the County Veterans Service Office. Monthly
meetings with list of items for CVSO to address.


Commissioners report on Communications with the Mayor’s Office and/or Board of Supervisors
– none.


Veteran’s Legislation –
AB2394 – personal tax exemption for retired veterans was approved by Appropriations
Committee and is moving on to the Assembly.
VA Secretary appointee withdrew – administration might be in violation of vacancy
filling requirements.


HR5674 was supported by 35 veterans service organizations (no text available publicly).
Medical Marijuana Bill might get piggy-backed on VA medical bills.


Announcements – May 15 – 9/11 Day of Remembrance and Service Intro Meeting at War
Memorial Veterans Building (second floor). Olivieri will send email.
