Golden Gate Park Access and Safety Project

Thank you for being an important Golden Gate Park Access and Safety Program stakeho lder. Your input has been invaluable in helping to shape our extensive public outreach process.

Golden Gate Park Access and Safety Program, is a joint effort of the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department (RPD) an d San Francisco Municipal Transportation Transit Agency (SFMTA), tasked with finding solutions that balance the need for safe, car-free spaces with the need for access to Golden Gate Park for all visitors, including seniors and the disability community.

We wanted to provide you with an update as we are launching our public outreach and engagement work.  See below for the upcoming schedule of outreach events.  We would greatly appreciate your help in publicizing these opportunities to comment.

How We Will Engage
Anyone can weigh in. We will be hosting:
  • Virtual Info Session (September 30 and October 2)
  • In-park tours
  • Online interactive and multi-language StoryMap
  • Multi-language survey
  • Presentations to key community stakeholder groups
  • And much more

Virtual Info Sessions
Attend one of two virtual information sessions for a program overview presentation and Q&A: 
  1. September 30, 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. 
  2. October 3, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. 
Park Tour
Get a tour of Golden Gate Park (GGP):
  1. GGP Accessibility Tour with Walk SF* – October 2, 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
    • Everyone is welcome, although this Tour is specifically designed to enable people with disabilities and older adults to evaluate accessibility in Golden Gate Park.
  2. GGP Walk + Roll Tour  October 10, 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. 
  3. GGP Bike Tour  October 24, 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. 

Community Events
Visit the program team at one of the following community events: 
  1. Golden Gate Bandshell Concert- Soul/Jazz Friday – October 1, 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. 
  2. Clement Street Farmer’s Market – October 3, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. 
  3. Inner Sunset Flea Market  October 10, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. 
  4. Bay Wheels Adaptive Bike Share – October 17, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  5. Outer Sunset Farmer’s Market & Mercantile – October 24, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. 
  6. Golden Gate Park Ba ndshell Concert – Singer/Songwriter Wednesday – October 27, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. 
  7. Golden Gate Park Sunday Roller Disco Party (location) – November 7, 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. 
  8. Lindy in the Park – Nov ember 14, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. 

Our outreach process will focus on gathering feedback on the roadway configuration options as well as other project that improve access.  We plan to discuss configuration options including the current configuration, the pre-COVID configuration and a limited private vehicle access loop.

TIMELINE
Following public input and further technical analysis of each proposal, the Golden Gate Park Access and Safety Program will submit its recommendations to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors in late Winter.  The SFCTA is conducting an equity study associated with the project and our hope is to present them jointly.
