10.       INFORMATION ITEM:  U.N Treaty on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.  Presentation by Michele Magar, Esq.  The U.N. Treaty has the potential to revolutionize the lives of 600 million people with disabilities, particularly in developing countries, where people with disabilities often lack such basic rights as the right to marry, own property, attend school, or work.  The treaty's protections will only extend to residents of nations that ratify the treaty.  President Bush has announced that the U.S. will not sign the new treaty.

11.       INFORMATION ITEM:  Accessible Pedestrian Signals.   Presentation by Cristina Olea, Pedestrian Program Manager, Municipal Transportation Agency.  Overview of Results of APS Pilot Project, Installation Update, and Discussion of Draft Policies.

 

12.       INFORMATION ITEM:  Announcement of Taxi Voucher Program - Free Taxi rides Available for People with Disabilities.  Presentation by Kari Orvik, LightHouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired.  Persons need not have visual impairments to be eligible. 13.       INFORMATION ITEM:  Invitation to “Under the Radar.”  Presentation by Jess Curtis. “Under the Radar,” a dance performance featuring an international cast of disabled and non-disabled performers at CounterPULSE, 1310 Mission Street at 9th in San Francisco through April 1st.  CounterPULSE is 2 blocks from BART and directly accessible by bus. Mayor’s Disability Council
Accessible Meeting Information

 

City Hall is accessible to persons using wheelchairs and other disabilities.  All four building entrances are accessible via ramp.  The Carlton B. Goodlett entrance is accessible via a wheelchair lift.  Assistive listening devices are available and meetings are real-time captioned and sign language interpreted. Agendas are available in large print and Braille.  Other materials are available in alternative formats upon request.  Please make your requests for alternative format or other accommodations to the Council Clerk, Howard O. Wong, 554-6789 (V), 554-6799 (TTY). Requesting accommodations at least 72 hours prior to the meeting will help to ensure availability.

The nearest accessible BART station is Civic Center Plaza at the intersection of Market, Grove, and Hyde Streets.  The accessible MUNI Metro lines are the J, K, L, M, and N (Civic Center Station or Van Ness Avenue Station).  MUNI bus lines serving the area are the 47 Van Ness, 9 San Bruno, and the 6, 7, 71 Haight/ Noriega.  Accessible curbside parking is available on 1 Dr. Carlton B. Goodlett Place and Grove Street.

 In order to assist the City’s efforts to accommodate persons with severe allergies, environmental illness, multiple chemical sensitivity or related disabilities, attendees at public meetings are reminded that other attendees may be sensitive to perfumes and various other chemical-based scented products.  Please help the City to accommodate these individuals.
