9.         INFORMATION AND DISCUSSION ITEM:  San Francisco's Behavioral Health Court, Report-Back on Phase One of Study: The Effectiveness of a Mental Health Court for Reducing Criminal Recidivism and Violence.  Presentations by Dr. Dale McNiel and CCSF Deputy Public Defender Jennifer Johnson. The Behavioral Health Court is an innovative approach for people with mental disabilities in the criminal justice system. (20 Minutes)

10.       INFORMATION ITEM: Free HICAP Medicare Counseling Available.  Presentation by Senior Action Network.

 

SF HICAP (Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program) is pleased to announce a counseling site at the Mayor’s Office on Disability, 401 Van Ness, Suite 300.  People who have Medicare due to a disability are encouraged to contact HICAP for a counseling appointment.  All HICAP services are free.  HICAP counselors meet with present and prospective Medicare beneficiaries to help them understand their Medicare benefits and rights.  Senior Action Network is the sponsor for San Francisco HICAP, which serves all of San Francisco counties.  HICAP has 11 counseling sites located throughout San Francisco, including the Mayor’s Office on Disability. 

 

All counseling sessions are by appointment only.  To make an appointment to meet with a counselor, please call SF HICAP at 1-800-434-0222 (or local 415-546-2087).

Mayor’s Disability Council
Accessible Meeting Information

 

City Hall is accessible to persons using wheelchairs and other disabilities.  The Polk Street/ Carlton B. Goodlett entrance is accessible via a ramp and a wheelchair lift.  The other three entrances are accessible via ramps.  Assistive listening devices are available and the meeting itself will be real-time captioned and sign language interpreted. Agendas are available in large print and Braille.  Other materials are available in alternative formats upon request.  Please make your requests for alternative format or additional accommodations to the Council Clerk, Howard O. Wong, 554-6789 (V), 554-6799 (TTY). Requesting accommodations at least 72 hours prior to the meeting will help to ensure availability.

The nearest accessible BART station is Civic Center Plaza at the intersection of Market, Grove, and Hyde Streets.  The accessible MUNI Metro lines are the J, K, L, M, N and T (Civic Center Station or Van Ness Avenue Station).  MUNI bus lines serving the area are the 47 & 49 Van Ness, 9 San Bruno, and the 6, 7, 71 Haight/ Noriega.  Accessible curbside parking is available on 1 Dr. Carlton B. Goodlett Place and Grove Street.

 In order to assist the City’s efforts to accommodate persons with severe allergies, environmental illness, multiple chemical sensitivity or related disabilities, attendees at public meetings are reminded that other attendees may be sensitive to perfumes and various other chemical-based scented products.  Please help the City to accommodate these individuals.
