9.        CEREMONIAL ITEM:  Mayor’s Disability Council Awards for Excellence

 

MDC Awards for Excellence Criteria:  Awards are presented to persons and organizations who have excelled in furthering disability rights for people with disabilities in San Francisco City government services, activities, programs and facilities.

 

  • Anita Aaron, Executive Director LightHouse for the Blind and Nathaniel P. Ford Sr., Executive Director / CEO, San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA)  – Award for collaboration to ensure that the City of San Francisco has an outstanding program for installing Accessible Pedestrian Signals.

 

  • Bay Area Association of Disabled Sailors (BAADS) – Award for providing training, as well as affordable accessible sailing opportunities on San Francisco Bay.

 

  • “We Wanna Dance!” and John Le Tourneau, Department of Recreation and Parks.  Award for their successful collaboration in establishing and sustaining monthly nighttime dances for adults with disabilities.

10.       INFORMATION ITEM:  Access San Francisco Guide. Presentation by Bonnie Lewkowicz, Access Northern California.  The 2007 edition of Access San Francisco is now available, offering essential information to help plan a barrier free visit to San Francisco.  It includes useful information about accessible lodging, restaurants, transportation and things to do. This free guide is available from the San Francisco Convention & Visitor’s Bureau, [email protected] (415) 391-2000. Guides on tape and large print will be available from the Mayor’s Office on Disability in late July.  The guide is funded by the Mayor’s Office on Disability, San Francisco Convention & Visitor’s Bureau, Weaver Publications and the Christopher Reeve Foundation.

Mayor’s Disability Council
Accessible Meeting Information

 

City Hall is accessible to persons using wheelchairs and other disabilities.  The Polk Street/ Carlton B. Goodlett entrance is accessible via a ramp and a wheelchair lift.  The other three entrances are accessible via ramps.  Assistive listening devices are available and the meeting itself will be real-time captioned and sign language interpreted. Agendas are available in large print and Braille.  Other materials are available in alternative formats upon request.  Please make your requests for alternative format or additional accommodations to the Council Clerk, Howard O. Wong, 554-6789 (V), 554-6799 (TTY). Requesting accommodations at least 72 hours prior to the meeting will help to ensure availability.

The nearest accessible BART station is Civic Center Plaza at the intersection of Market, Grove, and Hyde Streets.  The accessible MUNI Metro lines are the J, K, L, M, N and T (Civic Center Station or Van Ness Avenue Station).  MUNI bus lines serving the area are the 47 & 49 Van Ness, 9 San Bruno, and the 6, 7, 71 Haight/ Noriega.  Accessible curbside parking is available on 1 Dr. Carlton B. Goodlett Place and Grove Street.

 In order to assist the City’s efforts to accommodate persons with severe allergies, environmental illness, multiple chemical sensitivity or related disabilities, attendees at public meetings are reminded that other attendees may be sensitive to perfumes and various other chemical-based scented products.  Please help the City to accommodate these individuals.
