Helen Pelzman

Mayor London Breed with Helen PelzmanHelen Pelzman was appointed to the Mayor’s Disability Council by Mayor London Breed in 2019.

Ms. Pelzman’s interest in government and public affairs began at the age of 10 when her family moved to Washington DC.  Her passion for environmental policy has remained the focus of her professional life serving as a senior level policy and public affairs director for the California Public Utilities Commission, Cal-EPA, the White House Office of Science and Technology, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, US Conference of Mayors, Massachusetts Department of Human Services, and US House of Representatives Energy and Commerce Committee.

Following a bad accident, Helen lost her ability to walk unaided. Despite her disability, Helen still pursues her love of the outdoors by sailing and riding.  She has remained active in presidential, congressional, mayoral, local and initiative campaigns. 

Helen has been a resident of San Francisco’s Marina District for the past 12 years and is the founder of the Marina Literari  Society.
