09066

Determination of jurisdiction on complaint filed by Emil Lawrence against the Municipal Transportation Agency for allegedly cancelling meetings regarding taxi matters.

Complainant Emil Lawrence said he has been a taxi driver in San Francisco for 10 years and has been very vocal on cab driver issues for the last five years. He said the MTA has since March 1, 2009, moved all taxi issues to the background and has had unannounced meetings. He said San Francisco has 1,500 taxi cabs and 5,000 licensed drivers who do not have any say in the industry, which is dominated by medallion holders and taxi company owners. They, he said, get to discuss issues with City officials and no attention is being paid to the drivers’ needs and wants.

Member Knoebber noted that the complainant has not provided physical proof that supported his claims.

Chair Goldman said the complainant’s presentation has not show that a violation of the Sunshine Ordinance had occurred and therefore could not find for jurisdiction.

Public Comment: David Pilpel said the frustration is because many are used to the Taxi Commission’s approach to issues while the MTA is handling matters in a different way.

No action taken.
