February 21, 2004 Public Hearing

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

SPECIAL MEETING OF THE

COMPLIANCE & AMENDMENTS COMMITTEE

OF THE

SUNSHINE ORDINANCE TASK FORCE

Saturday, February 21, 2004, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 Noon

Park Branch Library

1833 Page Street, San Francisco

The Compliance & Amendments Committee of the Sunshine Ordinance Task Force will meet in special session, as indicated above, to field public comments regarding possible amendments to the Sunshine Ordinance, San Francisco’s open-meetings and public-records statute.

Examples of issues under consideration include Task Force enforcement powers, notice requirements for meetings of "passive meeting" bodies, and public access to City/County officials’ and agencies’ telephone records.

The Ordinance (Administrative Code Section 67) was enacted by the Board of Supervisors and Mayor Frank Jordan in 1993, and strengthened by initiative (Proposition G) in 1999. Its purpose is to ensure public access to meetings of city boards, commissions and task forces, and their committees and subcommittees, and the public’s right to view and copy public records of City/County departments and policy bodies.

Comments may be submitted at the public hearing, or at any regular meeting of the Sunshine Ordinance Task Force or the Compliance & Amendments Committee; by mail to the Sunshine Ordinance Task Force, 1 Dr. Carlton B. Goodlett Place, Room 244, San Francisco, CA 94102; or by email to the Task Force Administrator, Donna.Hall@sfgov.org.

Agendas and minutes of all meetings of the Sunshine Ordinance Task Force and its committees are at www.sfgov.org/sunshine.

A similar public hearing is planned for March 2004. Dates, times and places are to be announced.

Donna L. Hall, Administrator
