COMPLIANCE AND AMENDMENTS COMMITTEE


MINUTES*

Wednesday, April 14, 2004

4:00 p.m., City Hall, Room 406

Committee Members: Richard Knee, Chair, Nicole Dogwill, Alexandra Nickliss

Note: Action items: First name indicates member making motion; second name indicates member seconding motion. All items unanimous except as noted.


Roll call: All present.

1.

Approval of minutes of March 10, 2004.

Minutes approved. (Nickliss/Dogwill)

2.

Administrator’s report. (discussion and possible action)

(a) Report on Orders of Determination

  1. Progress of Dan Boreen complaints
  2. Progress of John Kelly complaint
  3. Progress of Joseph Graff complaint
  4. Information from Peter Witt regarding his previous complaints

Report given.

3.

Peter Witt regarding additional complaint against the Taxi Commission.

Mr. Witt addressed the Committee regarding his past complaints and new complaints against the Taxi Commission for being able to speak at public comment time. The Task Force will review the videos of the Taxi Commission meetings of January 13, 2004 and March 23, 2004 at their next meeting.

Steve Lawrence regarding additional complaint against the Public Utilities Commission.

Removed from the agenda at Complainant’s request.

5.

John Kelly regarding additional complaint against the Department of Building Inspection.

Mr. Kelly addressed the Committee regarding his requests to the Department of Building Inspection stating he had not received a written statement regarding information at 201 8th Street and 525 5th Street.

Ken Harrington & Jim Hutchinson from the Department of Building Inspection addressed the Committee stating all information had been provided to Mr. Kelly.

The Department of Building Inspection will provide Mr. Kelly with a written statement as he has requested; if three weeks from now Mr. Kelly is not satisfied with the result, this item will be placed on the Committee’s agenda for further discussion.

6.

Dan Boreen regarding additional complaint against the Fire Department.

Mr. Boreen addressed the Committee regarding an additional complaint against the Fire Department for releasing of records regarding disciplinary charges.

Lorrie Kalos, Assistant Deputy Chief, addressed the Committee stating the information requested is available in each fire house.

Chair Knee stated that without prejudice with regard to the subject of Mr. Boreen’s complaint, the perception is his request is not a public record under the Sunshine Ordinance.

At the next meeting of the Committee, the Committee will address the outstanding requests from Mr. Boreen’s previous complaints.
