Minutes for Education and Employment Committee

1. Call to Order
Commissioner Jones called the meeting to order at 4:52pm.
Present: Commissioners Jones, Hirano, Liang
Absent: Commissioner Davidson, J. Chan
Non-Committee members present: Commissioners La Croix
Staff: Lauterborn

2. Approval of Agenda (possible action)
Motion to approve, Hirano, seconded by Liang
Agenda was approved unanimously by acclamation.

3. Approval of Minutes (possible action)
Motion to approve, Hirano, seconded by Liang
Agenda was approved unanimously by acclamation.

4. Public Comment on Items not on Agenda
None

5. Staff Report
Staff informed the Commissioners that Hillary Liang joined the Committee and that Elvina Fan had won the Student Delegate Election.
Staff also informed the Commissioners that Student Delegate Andie Rose was working with staff on a resolution regarding SFUSD bathroom policies.

6. Business (Discussion and possible action)
a. Education Information
Staff distributed various articles and reports on education in California.

b. Resolution Establishing a Health Education Task Force
The Commissioners reviewed Commissioner Davidson’s resolution
Public Comment: Tristan Leder from the Student Advisory Council (SAC) stated that he would seek input from the SAC’s members
The resolution was forwarded to the full Commission without objection

c. Homework Report
Commissioner Liang agreed to turn the contents of staff’s homework efficiency report into a resolution.
Public Comment: Tristan Leder from the Student Advisory Council (SAC) stated that he would co-sponsor the resolution at the Board of Education, should he find a Board of Education Commissioner to co-sponsor the resolution.

d. Budget Recommendations follow up
Commissioners discussed their budget recommendations and agreed to take the appropriate next steps
