  4. Old Business
    1. Discussion and possible action re: Presentation by Student Advisory Council member of the San Francisco Unified School District

Karissa contacted Terry with the Student Advisory Council and will try to get in touch with her over the winter break and ask her to come to the next committee meeting.

    2. Discussion and possible action re: Brainstorming projects for the committee

Committee members gave ideas for a major Committee project. They included input from the Education Hearing the Commission held in the spring. They were:
      • Multicultural curriculum
      • Parents unhappy with school
      • Underfunding of schools (facilities and books)
      • Computer literacy
      • Student evaluation of teachers
      • Better relationship between teachers and students
      • Meaningful student involvement
      • Libraries
      • Dropout/Graduation
      • Supportive classroom communities (teachers, counselors, school officials etc)
      • Teacher education (professional development days)
      • RAP High School
The group came to consensus on child care for elementary school students. They will begin with research on what services are available in San Francisco. This way they know what is available and then decide on what exactly needs to be done and how. The research would include what services, for whom, charge/free and how the program is funded. The group decided to research according to neighborhoods:

      Eric: Richmond, Marina
      Michel: OMI, Excelsior, Mission
      Karissa: Sunset, Chinatown, North Beach
Jewnbug: Tenderloin, SOMA, Hunters Point, Visitacion Valley, Twin Peaks (incl. W Portal)

    3. Creation of city-wide scholarship

Commissioners were supportive of the project but were not interested in making it a project of the committee. Eric said he could do some work on it.
  1. Staff Report: No report.

  2. Announcements: No announcements.

  3. Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 5:10pm.
