1.    Call to Order and Roll Call

 


The meeting was called to order at 3:19PM. Commissioners present: Ontiveros, Yang, Zukerman. Members present: Jose Luis Mejia, Elizabeth Lee. Absent: Winnie Lin. Staff present: Truong

 

2.    Approval of Minutes (Action Item)

 

  1. September 14, 2011 (Document A)              
    Commissioner Yang moved to approve the minutes, seconded by Ontiveros. The motion was approved unanimously.

3.    Approval of Agenda (Action Item)

 


Commissioner Yang, seconded by Ontiveros moved to approve the agenda. The motion was approved unanimously.

 

4.    Public Comment on Items not on Agenda (Discussion Only)       

 

There were none.

 

5.    Business (All Items to Follow Discussion and Possible Action)

 


A.  Update on the Immigrant Youth Summit collaboration with Office of Civic Engagement and Immigrant Affairs, Youth Commission, and the Mayor’s Office.

      Commissioner Yang gave an update on the collaboration with the different partners involved. Currently, the details of how to transport high school students to and from the Immigrant Youth Summit is in the planning process by staff. Yang also updated peers on the recruitment process of high school students at the following schools:  Galileo, Lincoln, Washington, Thurgood Marshall, Mission, Balboa, Philip Burton, International Study Academy.

Commissioner Ontiveros stated that the committee should emphasized to teachers and principals that the goal is to have the students at the summit reflect the wide range of immigrant youth demographic in SF.

Committee members also discussed and went over specifics of the break out session themes and suggested possible moderators and facilitators. 

Commissioner Ontiveros and Jose-Luis Mejia suggested that the summit also have a raffle prize give away for students.

Committee members are really excited about the Immigrant Youth Summit.

 

  1. Confirm the Immigrant Youth Summit Resource List

    Staff Truong led the committee members through the list of possible organizations and city departments to invite to table during the Resource Fair of the summit. 

    Committee members reviewed and discussed all organizations. Commissioner Zukerman suggested reaching out to the Russian Community Center.

    Committee members finalized the resource list.

6.    Election of Chair

 


Commissioner Yang was elected Chair of the Committee.  Commissioner Ontiveros was elected as Vice Chair of the Committee. 

 

7.    Adjournment

 


Committee members agreed to meet on Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at 3:30pm. The meeting was adjourned at 4:20pm.
