A. Finalizing policy priorities for the 2011-2012 fiscal year

Committee members agreed on the following policy and programmatic priorities for the year:

Transportation:
• Following up on the free MUNI for youth campaign and making it a reality

Recreation:
• Exploring the hours of operation at recreation centers
• Exploring the quality and condition of the City’s sports fields

Housing:
• Following up/pushing on the City’s housing plan for Transitional Age Youth
• Ensuring that Transitional Age Youth are identified as a priority along with other populations in future San Francisco Housing Authority policy documents

Other “city services”:
• Following up/participating in the production of a video with the Department of Public Health and BAYCAT that will serve to train City employees and nonprofit youth workers on issues of LGBTQ youth sensitivity, as required under Chapter 12N of the City’s Administrative Code
• Guaranteeing that the City prioritize creating and regularly updating a user-friendly database of youth programs
• Assuring that the Mayor and the Board of Supervisors follow up on the 15 policy recommendations produced by the 2007 Mayor’s Transitional Youth Task Force

A propos of this last policy priority—which was identified after a presentation by the Transitional Age Youth Initiative at the last full Youth Commission meeting of Monday, November 7, 2011—committee members then collaborated on drafting a resolution calling on the Mayor and the Board of Supervisors to follow through on the 16 recommendations.
