1. Call to Order

Commissioner Fierro called the meeting to order at 5:38pm.
Commissioners present: Fierro, Benezra, LaCroix. Commissioners tardy: Liang (arrived 5:45pm). Staff present: Yedidia.

2. Approval of Minutes

This item was tabled.

3. Approval of Agenda (Action Item)

Commissioner Benezra moved to approve the agenda, seconded by commissioner LaCroix. The agenda was approved unanimously by acclamation.

4. Public Comment on Items not on Agenda

There was none.

5. Business (All Action Items)

A. Debrief of last meeting & Establishing better processes for preparing for each item on the commission agenda

Commissioners agreed to hold presenters and discussions to more strict time limits.

B. Update on Survey of SF Youth & the State of the Youth Report

Commissioners looked at a Boys & Girls Club of America report that will serve as a kind of model for the Youth Commission’s “State of the Youth” report on San Francisco’s 12 to 23 year old populations, which will be produced by January 1, 2011.

C. Update on Community Outreach: (1) Individual commissioners’ community engagement; (2) Partnerships (NEN Awards; CMAC Violence-Free Halloween); (3) Social media—where are we at with Facebook & Twitter?

Commissioners agreed to encourage their colleagues to solicit more nominations for the NEN awards.

D. Establishing Agenda for October 18, 2010 Youth Commission Meeting

Commissioners established the agenda, declining to hear any legislation referred at this time, and opting to calendar presentations from My Verse, Eddy Zheng, New Day for Learning, a Coalition of community organizations working on Rec and Park issues, OEWD and DCYF’s workforce development programs and a resolution on queer youth suicide by Youth Commissioners Marshall-Fricker, Chan and Hirano, along with an election of a new Community Outreach Officer (and attendant amending of the Youth Commission bylaws) and the formulation of an outreach plan for the 2010 Youth Survey.

6. Adjournment

The meeting was adjourned at 6:40pm.

The Commission meeting room is wheelchair accessible. Accessible curbside parking spaces have been designated on the corners of McAllister and Polk, and Grove and Polk. There is accessible parking available within the Civic Center Underground Parking Garage at the corner of McAllister and Polk Streets, and within the Performing Arts Parking Garage at Grove and Franklin Streets.
