1. Call to Order
Chair LaCroix called the meeting to order at 5:25pm.
Commissioners present: Zuckerman, Marshall-Fricker, Liang, Joyce, Sun, Hewitt, Perez, Fierro, Hirano, Beaulac, Nauer, Benezra, Herzstein, Kaminsky, Chan, LaCroix, Lin.
Commissioners tardy: Perez.
Commissioners absent: Yang.
Staff present: Yedidia, Covington (intern), Ruan (intern).
2. Approval of Agenda (Action Item)
Commissioner Kaminsky, seconded by Marshall-Fricker, moved to approve the meeting’s agenda. This motion was approved unanimously by acclamation.
3. Approval of Minutes (Action Item)

Commissioner Herzstein, seconded by commissioner Sun, moved to approve the minutes to the Special meeting of Monday, May 23, 2011. This motion was approved unanimously by acclamation.
Commissioner Benezra, seconded by Commissioner Hirano, moved to approve the minutes to the meeting of Monday, May 2, 2011. This motion was approved unanimously by acclamation.
Commissioner Hirano, seconded by Commissioner Fierro, moved to approve the minutes to the Special meeting of Wednesday, April 20, 2011. This motion was approved unanimously by acclamation.
Commissioner Herzstein, seconded by Commissioner LaCroix, moved to approve the minutes to the meeting of Monday, April 4, 2011. This motion was approved unanimously by acclamation.
Commissioner Herzstein, seconded by Commissioner Sun, moved to approve the minutes to the Special Joint meeting with the Entertainment Commission of Tuesday, March 22, 2011. This motion was approved unanimously by acclamation.
Commissioner LaCroix, seconded by Commissioner Marshall-Fricker, moved to approve the minutes to the meeting of Monday, March 21, 2011. This motion was approved unanimously by acclamation.
Commissioner Herzstein, seconded by Commissioner Hirano, moved to approve the minutes to the meeting of Monday, March 7, 2011. This motion was approved unanimously by acclamation.
Commissioner Kaminsky, seconded by Commissioner Hirano, moved to approve the minutes to the special joint meeting with the Student Advisory Council of Wednesday, December 8, 2010, from 6:30-8:30pm (LGBTQQ issues).
Commissioner Kaminsky, seconded by Commissioner Nauer, moved to approve the minutes to the special meeting of Wednesday, December 8, 2010 from 4:00-6:00 (MUNI and youth issues).
4. Public Comment on Items not on Agenda (Discussion Only)
Rhianna Babca from the California Walks organization spoke in public comment. California Walks is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the health and safety of communities by enhancing the pedestrian environment. They did a project at Mission High School where they collected data and testimonials from students. She asked for the Youth Commission’s support in California Walks’ work.
Tarik Ghaleb, a MHS student, also spoke. Tarik was part of the Video Voice project. He and his classmates identified a problem at Dolores and 19th streets—namely, that at this busy intersection there should be a stop sign to keep pedestrians safe. He asked for the Youth Commission’s help on this issue.
5. Youth Commission Business (All Items to follow Discussion and Possible Action)
A. YC 10-11—RC10: Resolution/In Memoriam celebrating the life of John David Francis

Chair LaCroix introduced this item by paying respect and honoring the work of John David Francis, who passed away 2 weeks ago. Francis was an influential leader that touched the lives of many San Franciscans as a Youth Pastor at the Voice of Pentecost Church, of which Chair LaCroix is a member. This resolution commends his contributions to the lives of many youth in San Francisco.
Chair LaCroix read the resolution to the public record.
Public Comment:
Anonymous male speaker: had known Mr. Francis for two and a half years and spoke about how the pastor had always showed him great respect, as well as acted like a second father to him.
Anonymous female speaker: thanked chair LaCroix for honoring Mr. Francis. She commented that Mr. Francis was always a second father, who lived to serve the people and the city (speaker was about to break out in tears).
Commissioner LaCroix , seconded by commissioner Marshall-Fricker, moved to adopt the resolution to honor the life and work of John David Francis. This motion was approved unanimously by acclamation.
6. Staff Report (Informational Item)
Mario Yedidia commented that he hired a new Coordinator of Youth Development. Her name is Phimy Truong. Yedidia thanked the commissioners for their hard work this year.
7. Announcements
Commissioner Chan & Peter Lauterborn announced that there will be a focus group at the Department of Children, Youth and their Families meeting on MUNI data at 5p.m. on Thursday, June 23, 2010.
Lin Dang, new field representative from the office of Assemblymember Tom Ammiano, thanked the Youth Commission for its work.
Pat Scott invited commissioners to the 4:00pm hearing tomorrow at the Board of Supervisors regarding the Booker T. Washington Community Service Center’s plan to rebuild its space and, in the process, construct 24 new units of supporting housing for Transitional Age Youth emancipating out of the foster care system.
8. Adjournment
Chair LaCroix adjourned the meeting at 5:57pm in memory and honor of John David Francis.

The Commission meeting room is wheelchair accessible. Accessible curbside parking spaces have been designated on the corners of McAllister and Polk, and Grove and Polk. There is accessible parking available within the Civic Center Underground Parking Garage at the corner of McAllister and Polk Streets, and within the Performing Arts Parking Garage at Grove and Franklin Streets.
