1. Call to Order and Roll Call: Commissioner Lantz, Operations Officer, called the meeting to order at 6:10 pm. Commissioners Present: Allison, Arreguìn-Ferñandez (tardy), Attai, Jacot-Bell, Chang, Lantz, Geodzhayev, Ramos, Olawale, Valdez, Villaluna Absent: Commissioners Fosselman, Campeau, Kwong, Martin, Mejia, Vedad Staff Present: Nicole Derse, Colleen Montoya
2. Motion to approve agenda: Commissioner Villaluna made a motion to move Item 5 to the first item of New Business. Motion approved unanimously.
3. Announcements: Several Commissioners made announcements about community events.
4. New Business:
A. Discussion and possible action re: Youth Commission Response to the events of
September 11, 2001. Commissioner Valdez read the statement prepared by members of the Commission to the youth community. A motion was made to approve the statement. The motion was seconded. There was discussion on the statement, and numerous small changes were made to the statement. Commissioner Valdez made a motion to approve the statement as ammended. Commissioner Allison seconded the motion. The motion was approved unanimously. Members of the public congratulated the Youth Commission on its statement. The Youth Commissioners agreed to meet after the meeting and decide how to distribute the statement to the community.
B. Discussion and possible action re: Run-off election for position of Media & Public Relations Officer. Each candidate gave a two (2) minute speech explaining why they should be elected for their position of choice.
