  1. Call to Order and Roll Call: Commissioner Lantz called the meeting to order at 5:05p.m. Commissioners Present: Commissioners Adofoadom, Baires, Champion, Chang (TARDY 5:15), Cottrell, Fichelson, Jimenez, Koeppel, Kuang, Lantz, Lazer-Smith, Lauterborn, Moir, Mourning, Recinos, Shy, Williams Staff Present: Nicole Derse, Colleen Montoya, Ron S. McCan
  2. Motion to approve agenda: There was a motion to approve the agenda. Motion Approved.
  3. Staff Report:

Nicole welcomed everyone to their first meeting, and explained the purpose of the Staff Report portion of the agenda. She asked everyone to review the committee meeting schedule and notify her of any conflicts. Nicole also announced that we are recruiting for members of the San Francisco Youth Civic Innovation Fund. She also gave an update on the status of YouthVote.

  1. Public Comment on Items not on Agenda:

Tanene Allison – Former Chair of the San Francisco Youth Commission welcomed the Commission and read a letter composed by her and former Chair Anthony Valdez.

Mindy Linteski spoke about the Branch Library Improvement Project.

N’Tanya Lee from Coleman Advocates for Children and Youth announced the YMAC Ally event on 9/15.

Chelsea Boillard spoke about Prop 54 and encouraged Commissioners to get involved with the issue as individuals

  1. Discussion re: Presentation by Gloria Young, Clerk of the Board of Supervisors.

    Gloria introduced herself to the Commissioners and welcomed them to the 2003-2004 term. She gave an overview of the Clerk of the Board of Supervisors Department, and encouraged the Commissioners to use the various agencies of the department as a resource.

  2. Discussion re: Introduction to the City & County of San Francisco, Presentation by Amy Ackerman, Deputy City Attorney. Amy explained some of the City Department basics, the Sunshine Ordinance, and reviewed rules of conduct for campaigning & election season. Amy encouraged Commissioners to feel free to contact her at any time during the year. Amy can be reached in her office at (415) 554-4661or via e-mail at Amy_Ackerman@sfgov.org

  3. Discussion and possible action re: The Closure of Urban Pioneer Experimental Academy [Commissioner Lauterborn]. There was a brief discussion on the status of the Urban Pioneers Experimental Academy. Commissioner Lauterborn will be introducing a resolution on this item at the next meeting.
  4. Discussion re: Youth Commission process for submitting Legislation and Agenda Items. Ron reviewed the process for submitting Legislation and Agenda Items and answered questions for the Commissioners.
  5. Discussion and possible action re: Youth Commission’s 20032004Executive Committee Election Process. Colleen reviewed the election process and deadlines for submitting nominations. Elections will be held at the next Youth Commission meeting.
