1. Call to Order and Roll Call: Commissioner Moir called the meeting to order at 5:10p.m. Commissioners Present: Commissioners Chang, Der, Hall, Jackson, Kwong, Lantz, Lazer-Smith, Lauterborn, McLaughlin, Mourning, Rodriguez, White and Williams Commissioners Absent: Commissioners Baires and Copi Staff Present: Colleen Montoya, Ron S. McCan, and Ayoka Turner.

2. Motion to approve agenda: There was a motion to approve the agenda. Motion Approved.

3. Staff Report:

MAJOR HEARING ON THE 10/11 POLICE ABUSE AT THURGOOD MARSHALL HIGH SCHOOL

September 22, 2004 Police Commission Hearing begins at 5:30pm Community Healing Ceremony 3:30-5:30, city hall Rm 421

Teachers for Social Justice Conference – workshop and outreach opportunity! October 2, 2004 EITHER a morning or an afternoon workshop and than 2 hours of tabling and doing outreach during lunch time

We need 4 – 6 people to volunteer [2-3 to facilitate the workshop with Ayoka (if needed) and 2 – 3 to do outreach!

SoMa Fest: 9.25.04 12 - 4 p.m. @ Gene Friend Rec Ctr. [270 6th St.] We need to figure out who will be tabling at this and what activity we want to run!

Family Fest: 10.10.04 12 – 4 p.m. @ Yerba Buena Garden Rooftop We need to figure out who will be attending, who will be tabling and how we want to participate in the youth stage activities

9. New Business

  1. Discussion re: Presentation by Gloria Young, Clerk of the Board of Supervisors. Gloria welcomed the Commissioners and gave an overview of the Clerk of the Board of Supervisors department.
  2. Discussion re: Introduction to the City & County of San Francisco, Presentation by Amy Ackerman, Deputy City Attorney. Amy reviewed the basic City structure, reviewed the Sunshine Ordinance, and answered questions for the Commissioners.
  3. Discussion re: Youth Commission process for submitting Legislation and Agenda Items. This item was tabled until the next meeting.
  4. Discussion re: Youth Commission Committee Structure. Ayoka reveiwed committee highlights from previous terms, and informed to Commissioners that there will be a detailed discussion about the committee structure on Thursday 9/15 at 5pm in room 278.
  5. Discussion and possible action re: Youth Commission’s 2004-2005 Executive Committee Election Process. Colleen reviewed the duties for each officer and explained the process of elections. Nomination forms are due to Colleen by 5pm on Wednesday 9/14.
