Meeting Minutes & Action Plan

October 16, 2006, 5:00 p.m.

  1. Call to Order: 5:05 p.m.

    Roll Call:

    Present: Cassandra James, Chrsitine Revelo, Kemi Shamonda, Kenny Gong, Antonio Ayala (6:35--left) Samuel Rubin, Julie Taeko Gramlich, Anthony Pico, Anthony Albert, Jacky Kwong, Iqra Anjum, Luciana Carvalho, Marc Lowe (5:55*)

    Not Present: Dominique Dorham, Krystal Kiremit, Shadi Elkarra

    Guests: Brandon Franklin

  2. Approval of Agenda: Approved, changed 11A, Item 4.
  3. Approval of Minutes: Approved.
  4. Staff Report:

    Diana passed out the It's A Date flyer--all relevant YC dates and events; she also shared the Robert's Rules basic guide handouts;

    Kevin reminded the Commission that they need to be respectful of their appointing officers

    Rachel announced that Lia Garvin resigned, we are working to recruit a new Commissioner from D5. Dominque cannot attend the Youth Commission meetings, and thus resigned. She will be involved with the JAC and Justice Committee.

    Operations (Luciana)–discussed food at meetings, passed out a handout for input

  1. Update: Youth Empowerment Fund Advisory Board (YEFAB)

    Commissioner Kwong discussed site visits the YEFAB visited CHALK, CCDC, others

    Next meeting is Wednesday, 10/18

  2. Update: Transitional Youth Task Force

    Commissioner Anjum, mixer planned on 10/23 at DCYF

Staff updated the YC on the Mayor's office response, curfew issues

Wednesday's (10/18) Budget and Finance meeting (1 p.m.), presented the Mayor Newsom

Commissioner Lowe asked about JPD on how juvenile justice expenses are being expended

Commissioner James spoke out against the Mayor's supplemental expenses

Commissioner Kwong asked about foot patrols as the job descriptions

Voted to not support #061275 (majority)

Revelo, Lowe, Pico, Kwong--abstain
