MINUTES
July 21, 2020


Chair Sue Cauthen called the meeting to order at 6:07 PM.

PRESENT:  Ted Bamberger, Enne Braun, Sue Cauthen, Lucille Cuttler, Linda Guitron, Roger Kallen, Margaret Lee. Karen Melander-Magoon, Clarice Moody, Jan Seeman, Gladys Soto, Peter Warfield, Dan Weaver

ABSENT:    Houston Garcia, Anne Wintroub (two vacancies: D8 & SFPL disabled seat)

There was no general public comment.

PRESENTATION:     The Life of the Book

Pat Farenthold, Chief, Collections & Technical Services; and Laura Lent, Collection Development Manager discussed collection development, weeding (removing SFPL books and A/V items) and redistribution of weeded items.

They circulated handouts on collection selection, weeding items and redistributing them, as well  as a report on the work of the Missing Book Task Force.

OFFICER REPORTS

Chair Cauthen distributed copies of LCAC’s 2009-2010 Annual Report. Hard and electronic copies were provided to the supervisors. LCAC members will get electronic copies.

SFPL is making copies of LCAC’s Chinese language bookmarks for distribution in the branches. The officers are working to fill the two empty seats and assure that members attend meetings and have informed the city librarian and the supervisors of the importance of full membership and attendance.

SFPL has delayed BLIP completion dates at Merced, Park, Parkside and Presidio between 2-4 months, respectively.

MEMBER AGENDA SUGGESTIONS & COMMENTS

Provide more information about the BLIP, including data on setbacks. Presentations by James Chaffee and on the role of Friends of the Library and the Sunshine Ordinance.  Restrict presidential terms to one year.

ELECTION

Nominations for chair, vice chair and secretary were made in June. There were no further nominations and Cuttler moved (Lee seconded) a motion to close the nominations.

Yes: Cauthen, Cuttler, Guitron, Kallen, Lee, Soto, Weaver
No:   Bamberger, Braun, Magoon, Moody, Seeman, Warfield

The motion failed.

Election for chair followed:

Cauthen:    Braun, Cauthen, Cuttler, Guitron, Kallen, Lee, Soto, Weaver

Moody        Bamberger, Moody

Warfield    Magoon, Seeman, Warfield

No candidate received the required nine votes.  Kallen moved to continue the election to the August meeting and vote on the top two candidates. Member Moody withdrew as a candidate for chair.  Without objection, the election was continued to the August meeting.
