I. MINUTES

Public Comment
Mr. Painter suggested to the committee that shelters should make accommodations for clients who wish to access creative outlets after curfew. He explained that he is not able to write on his laptop after curfew.

II. REPORTS
A. Department of Public Health (DPH)
Committee Member David Nakanishi stated that there would be an additional trainings for shelters at a later date and he would circulate that information to the sites.

B. Shelter Status Report
Human Service Agency (HSA) Report
Single Adult Shelter Manager Briana Moore reported on behalf of HSA that there were 141 families on the shelter waiting list with 28 of those families on the priority list, which is lower than the previous month. Ms. Moore reviewed the Vacancy Reports for the single adult shelters and reported that Bethel will be opening October 1, 2010.

Ms. Moore further updated the committee on budget developments. Specifically, even with federal stimulus monies (HUD-McKinnley grant) the Jobs Now program would not be extended. That program will end on September 30, 2010

Shelter Advocates
Committee Members Elihu Hernandez and LJ Ciriclo reviewed the Shelter Advocate Report.

Public Comment
Mr. Painter reported to the Committee that he has noticed staff targeting clients who have been written up for further write-ups.

Charles Pitts asked the Committee to focus on enforcement strategies rather than continue to just monitor shelters.

Thomas Picarillo echoed Mr. Pitts suggestion to enforce the Standards of Care.

C. Standard of Care
Committee Chair Hauslaib reviewed the Standard of Care report.

III. PUBLIC COMMENT
Mr. Panter reported to the committee that he was denied a pass for late night work based on his wanting to write and do work on his personal computer past curfew.

IV. NEW BUSINESS
A. Quarterly Report
The Committee tabled this agenda item based on Ms. Casey’s absence.

V. INFORMATION REQUESTS
A. Staff Report
Committee Chair Hauslaib reviewed the July 2010 Staff Report.

B. Information Requests
The Committee reviewed the Information Request responses and tabled a discussion based on Ms. Casey’s absence.
