5. New Business a. Proposal for next Commission hearing (Commissioner Khojasteh) (Information/Discussion/Action) Commissioner Khojasteh proposed the topic of the next Full Commission Hearing to focus on the impacts of the Muslim Travel Ban before the case is heard in October by the U.S. Supreme Court. Khojasteh provided the following statement as a description of the proposed hearing: “’I cannot allow people into our country who want to do us harm. I want people who can love the United States and all of its citizens, and who will be hardworking and productive.’ This was the President’s response after the Supreme Court upheld a partial Muslim ban. This ban bars for 90 days the entry of individuals without bona fide relationships from six predominantly Muslim countries: Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen. The partial ban also includes a ban on all refugees for 120 days without bona fide relationships. Let us take this opportunity to come together in unity to show that this ban has no justification. Please lend us your voices and highlight your contributions to American society, and that you do love America.” The Commission conducted a discussion on a date for this proposed hearing. Commissioner Khojasteh made a motion to have the next Full Commission Hearing to be a special hearing on the travel ban and that the Execuitve Committee would make a final decision on the date of the hearing.
