Full Commission Meeting


1. Call to Order and Roll Call
Vice Chair Paz called the meeting to order at 5:40 pm.

Present: Vice Chair Paz, Commissioners Fujii, Kong, Radwan, Wong.

Not Present: Chair Kennelly (excused), Commissioners Enssani (excused), Gaime, Gurvits (excused), Khojasteh, Rahimi, Ricarte (excused), Roy, Wang.

Staff Present: Deputy Director Fernández Sykes, Commission Clerk Shore, Office Manager Chan.

2. Public Comment
There was no public comment.

3. Action Item: Approval of previous minutes
a. Approval of April 9, 2018 Neighborhood Commission Meeting Minutes

Due to lack of quorum, no action was taken.

4. Ad-Hoc Committee Report Back

Vice Chair Paz, Commissioner Radwan and Commissioner Fujii stated that they did not have any new developments to report from their committee meetings.

5. Old Business
a. Staff Report (Deputy Director Fernández Sykes)

Deputy Director Fernández Sykes provided a brief overview of the latest news on Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and Temporary Protected Status (TPS). Vice Chair Paz asked if there were any efforts to address the concerns of DACA recipients. Deputy Director Fernández Sykes stated that the main efforts were through legislative channels.

b. 2018 Immigrant Leadership Awards Event Update
Commission Clerk Shore provided a brief update on the Immigrant Leadership Awards scheduled for June 11, 2018. Commissioners are asked to arrive at 4:00 pm and will greet guests and present awards to honorees. Commissioners are welcome to help with outreach to guests such as Consulates. Through the Vice Chair, Commission Clerk Shore asked which Commissioners planned to attend the event. The five Commissioners present stated that they planned to attend the Immigrant Leadership Awards.

6. New Business
Vice Chair Paz invited Commissioners to present any new business.

Commissioner Radwan noted that there is a significant Palestinian immigrant population in the Bay Area, and urged the Commission to condemn the recent killing of Palestinians in Gaza. Vice Chair Paz invited the Commissioner to join the next Executive Committee meeting to discuss the matter due to the lack of quorum at the Full Commission meeting.

Vice Chair Paz proposed inviting representatives from San Francisco Housing Authority and the Hope SF Initiative to an upcoming Full Commission meeting, in order to discuss the changes in rent policy that are impacting mixed-status families. The City has proposed a temporary measure to address the problem, but there is concern over what will happen in the long term. Deputy Director Fernández Sykes stated that staff would look into the matter.
