A.     Executive Director's Report                                                                                                  5 min.

Explanatory document: The Executive Director’s Report discusses the work of the Department based on the Commission’s Strategic Plan which reflects the principles of the U.N. Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW). 

 

B.     Special Recognition of Kathryn Johnson, San Francisco State University                           3 min.

Dr. Murase will present a departmental recognition to Kathryn Johnson, Special Assistant to the Dean of the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences, San Francisco State University.

 

C.     Report from Eugene, Oregon                                                                                                            5 min.

Policy Director Ann Lehman and Senior Policy Analyst Anu Menon will report on the human rights training conducted in Eugene, Oregon. 

 

D.     Report from the UN Women Empowerment Principles Conference                                                5 min.

Ms. Ann Lehman will report on her presentation at the UN Global Compact meeting held in New York.

 

E.      Report from the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women                               5 min.

Dr. Murase will provide a report on the trainings she conducted in New York at the UN Parallel Sessions, and introduce the proposal the host the UN 5th World Conference on Women 2015 in San Francisco. Long-time proponent of the 5th World Conference on Women and a speaker at the UN Parallel Sessions on the topic, Jean Shinoda-Bolen will provide additional background.

 

Action:  To approve a resolution on hosting the UN 5th World Conference on Women 2015 in San Francisco.

                                            

IV.    CONSENT AGENDA                                                             DISCUSSION/ACTION         10 min.

 All matters listed hereunder constitute a Consent Agenda and are considered to be routine by the Commission on the Status of Women.  They will be acted upon by a single roll call vote of the Commission.  There will be no separate discussion of these items unless a member of the Commission so requests, in which event the matter shall be removed from the Consent Agenda and considered as a separate item.  Members of the public may speak on each item listed on the Consent Agenda.

A.           Violence Against Women Grant Allocations for FY11-14                                                     60 min.

1.  Funding Committee Recommendations           

Based on input from the VAW Review Panel, the VAW Funding Committee will submit recommendations for the VAW Prevention and Intervention Grants Program for the 2011-2014 funding period. 

2.  Public Comment                                                                                                                                        Public comment will be limited to 2 minutes per speaker.  Speakers are asked to submit a speaker card to the Commission Secretary.                                                                                                       

Action: To approve the funding allocation of the VAW Grants Program for the 3-year funding cycle FY11-14.

VI.    PUBLIC COMMENT                                                                        DISCUSSION                                     5 min.

This item is to allow members of the public to comment generally on matters within the Commission’s purview as well as to suggest new agenda items for Commission’s future consideration.
