Presentation on Proposed Small Business Recovery Act: Ben Van Houten, Business Development Manager, Nightlife and Entertainment Sector with the Office of Economic and Workforce Development provides a legislative update on the proposed Small Business Recovery Act (BOS File No. 210285). Discussion and possible action to support the proposed Shared Spaces and Small Business Recovery Act legislation: The Entertainment Commission will discuss the Shared Spaces ordinance (BOS File No. 210284) and the Small Business Recovery Act (BOS File No. 210285) and potentially act to formally support the legislation. [Discussion and Possible Action Item]

8. Hearing and Possible Action regarding applications for permits under the jurisdiction of the Entertainment Commission. [Discussion and Possible Action Item]

  1. EC-1587 – Calvin Louie and Cllifford Banayat of Lion’s Den Ventures, LLC, dba Lion’s Den, 57 Wentworth Place, Place of Entertainment permit.

MOTION: Commissioner Wang moved to approve the Place of Entertainment permit, Commissioner Caminong seconded the motion.

9. Discussion and Possible Action to adopt written comments and/or recommendations to be submitted by the Executive Director to the Planning Department and/or Department of Building Inspection regarding noise issues for proposed residential and/or hotel/motel projects per Chapter 116 of the of the Administrative Code. [Discussion and Possible Action Item]

Regular Agenda:

312 Utah Street, Bl/Lot: 3961/001A. Discussion and possible action to adopt written comments and/or recommendations regarding noise issues for the proposed residential project at 312 Utah Street, which is located within 300 feet of Il Pirata, a permitted Place of Entertainment.

Commissioner Falzon arrived at 7:16PM

 

Public Comment: John Catechi stated he has been in the community since 1994 and support businesses and events that go on in area.  He has concerns of inadequacies on the application project form as well as concerns about the outdoor patio.  He wants to make sure the plans are thought out for the impacts of the back-patio space.  

 

Sharon Catechi stared she has concerns about the patio area and concerns where the three decks will be located.  She added they have been trying to get information since January 2021 for their project plans and were told they were not the finished plans

MOTION: Commissioner Bleiman moved to approve the proposed residential project at 312 Utah Street to recommended approval with the standard conditions to the Planning in addition the following for planning 1.) Conduct a sound study with sufficient STC ratings 2.) The proximity of the proposed balconies to the patio of Il Pirata which is a potential space for entertainment 3.) The close proximity between the two building and review the materials and distance of the two buildings. Commissioner Perez seconded the motion.

 

  • Approved the proposed residential project at 312 Utah Street.
