COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Ben Bleiman (President), Steven Lee, Al Perez, Laura Thomas, Cyn Wang

COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Dori Caminong (Vice President), Dave Falzon

STAFF IN ATTENDANCE: Executive Director Maggie Weiland; Deputy Director Kaitlyn Azevedo; Senior Analyst Dylan Rice; Commission Secretary May Liang

 

THE MEETING WAS CALLED TO ORDER BY PRESIDENT BLEIMAN AT 5:39 PM

CALL TO ORDER AND ROLL CALL      

 

1. Consideration and possible action to adopt a resolution making findings to allow teleconferenced meetings under California Government Code Section 54953(e). [Discussion and Possible Action Item]

Motion: Commissioner Wang made a motion to adopt the resolution; Commissioner Lee seconded the motion.

Action: The Commission adopted the resolution.

Ayes: President Bleiman, Commissioner Lee, Commissioner Perez, Commissioner Thomas, Commissioner Wang

Nays: None

2. General Public Comment 

Members of the public may address the Commission on items of interest to the public that are within the subject matter jurisdiction of the Commission. With respect to agenda items, members of the public may address the Commission for up to three minutes at the time such item is called.

3. Approval of Meeting Minutes.  Discussion and possible action to approve the minutes of the April 19, 2022 Commission meeting. [Discussion and Possible Action Item]

MOTION: Commissioner Perez motioned to approve the meeting minutes; Commissioner Wang seconded the motion.

ACTION: The Commission approved the April 19, 2022 meeting minutes.

AYES: President Bleiman, Commissioner Lee, Commissioner Perez, Commissioner Thomas, Commissioner Wang


NAYS: None

4. Report from Executive Director: Legislative/Policy Update: none; Staff and Office Update: Reminder about Annual Retreat and Summit; Update on Board of Appeals Actions: none; Corrective Actions: none.  [Discussion Item]

5. Report from Deputy Director: Deputy Director Kaitlyn Azevedo reports on recent enforcement activities. [Discussion Item]

6. Hearing and Possible Action regarding applications for permits under the jurisdiction of the Entertainment Commission. [Discussion and Possible Action Item]  

Consent Calendar:

All matters listed hereunder constitute a Consent Calendar, are considered to be routine by the Entertainment Commission, and will be acted upon by a single roll call vote of the Commission.  There will be no separate discussion of these items unless a member of the Commission, the public, or staff so requests, in which event the matter shall be removed from the Consent Calendar and considered as a separate item at this or a future hearing.

  1. EC-1626 – Serkan Bikim of Exotic Boys, LLC, dba Wonder Lounge SF, 673 Geary St., Place of Entertainment – change in ownership

Motion: Commissioner Wang made a motion to approve the permit with staff recommendations; Commissioner Perez seconded the motion.

Action: The Commission approved the permit with staff recommendations.

Ayes: President Bleiman, Commissioner Lee, Commissioner Perez, Commissioner Thomas, Commissioner Wang

Nays: None

Public Comments:

= Geary St. Lui Tenant (virtual comment), neighbor had questions regarding the permit application

= Faizan Smith (virtual comment), neighbor suggested working with local parking lot vendor to ease traffic and double parking

- Barry Taranto (virtual comment), offended that taxis were not mentioned in the discussion

+ Abdul Farid (virtual comment), neighbor in support of the permit application

  1. EC-1631 – Eric Passetti and Dennis Leary of Alcyone, LLC, dba Natoma Cabana, 90 Natoma St., Place of Entertainment including outdoor amplified sound

Motion: Commissioner Lee made a motion to approve the permit with staff recommendations; Commissioner Perez seconded the motion.

Action: The Commission approved the permit with staff recommendations.

Motion: Commissioner Wang made a motion to approve the permit with staff recommendations; Commissioner Lee seconded the motion.

Action: The Commission approved the permit with staff recommendations.
