2014 Community Challenge Grant Announced
ANNOUNCEMENT
Â
City to Open 2014 Cycle for Community Challenge Grant, includes Area Plan pilot category for Eastern Neighborhoods & Market-Octavia.
Staff Contact: Menaka Mohan, Planner, menaka.mohan@sfgov.org
The Planning Department is partnering with the City Administrator’s Office’s Community Challenge Grant Program to pilot community-initiated, capital improvements in 5 neighborhoods with adopted Area Plans – the five Eastern Neighborhoods (SoMa, Mission, Potrero Hill/Showplace Square and Central Waterfront) and Market-Octavia.
The Area Plan CCG category is for projects located within the boundaries of the Eastern Neighborhoods and the Market-Octavia Area Plans. This category is funded from impact fees generated from new development in each Area Plan. The respective funds are applied to community improvement projects in these areas to accommodate increased use of existing amenities by new workers and residents resulting from new development.
The Area Plan Category pilot will be part of the regular Community Challenge Grant Cycle which is opening on August 25, 2014 (applications will be due September 29, 2014).
The Community Challenge Grant Program (CCG) provides grants to local community groups, artists, businesses and nonprofit organizations to make physical improvements to their neighborhoods. This year we have an exciting opportunity to implement projects in two specific areas, Market Octavia and the Eastern Neighborhoods. The funds for this program can only be used on capital projects and should focus on streetscape, public realm, recreation and public open space improvements. The grant cycle opens on August 25, 2015 (guidelines on who can apply and application forms will be posted) and applications will be due on September 29, 2014.
