African American History Project Open House

EVENT ANNOUNCEMENT

The African American History Project is a public outreach effort to document the history of African Americans in San Francisco through story-telling, oral histories, and personal photographs. The information gathered from the History Project will be included in the African American Historic Context Statement, a document to organize, examine and interpret history.

The Planning Department is hosting an open house to update the community on the progress of the context statement and to hear more of the personal stories and experiences about the history of African Americans in San Francisco. But in order to uncover and fully document the African American experience in San Francisco, they need to hear from you.

Please join the Planning Department and Al Williams, president of the African American Historical and Cultural Society, and be a part of recognizing, celebrating, and protecting African American contributions to San Francisco. For more information about the project or the meeting: call the African American Historic Context Statement Hotline at (415) 467-4675; contact Gina Simi at gina.simi@sfgov.org or (415) 575-9119; or visit the project’s website at http://africanamericanhcs.sfplanning.org.
